My self-summary
Born and raised in Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay, moved out to the Bay Area about six years ago, minus spurts in Austria for the majority of 2014 and down under in Australia last year for 3 months.

I feel most at home living close to an ocean (day trip's distance) in the suburbs within 20 minutes or so to a happening city, and my current house in Berkeley Hills is an excellent fit.
What I’m doing with my life
Forever a curious explorer of the outdoors, cultures, and cuisines. Variety gives me life. Taking advantage of being in the bay and experiencing its diverse atmosphere.

My philosophy is work to live don't live to work but learn to love the work that you do when you have to be at work.

Right now finishing a PhD in an engineering grad program at Cal Berkeley. Developing standards for small scale mechanical testing of radioactive materials. I'm a huge believer in safe, renewable, clean energy and I would like to see its global impact expand.

Although the research is interesting, school is slowly burning me out over all the years, so looking forward to moving on to more practical engineering at a national lab or industry position.
I’m really good at
listening before I speak
noticing small details others might overlook
keeping an open mind/balanced opinion/analyzing both sides of an argument aka playing devil's advocate
Giving practical advice

Playing lots of tennis these days and in a softball league that's somewhat competitive but also involves beer. Decent at basketball and a respectable bowler as well.

I can cook decent meals and I'm working on expanding my arsenal. Right now I have a pretty solid rotation going between stir fries, taco Tuesdays, pasta dishes, and fish. Successfully homebrewed a Kolsch and a stout as well.

Also part of a sword forging club in our lab. It's a great way to get frustrations out from the work week by hitting hot steel with a sledgehammer and welding it together to make something cool.

I miss going out on the Chesapeake Bay on the boat and catching a bushel of fresh blue crabs in Maryland. It's my peaceful oasis of serenity that's been in the family for 4 generations.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where to go and what to do and see next
How to get through those boring times we all have
On a typical Friday night I am
There really isn't a typical one. Usually starts with a work happy hour, but it could be a sports game, a concert, a movie, spending it travelling to somewhere for the weekend, staying in, a party....I like to keep my options open and keep it fresh.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I watched Laguna Beach, The Hills, and The City pretty much in their entirety quasi ironically.
