My self-summary
Update April 2017:
One of the last of a fading breed. I am open and honest with all that I meet. I have a true adventurer's spirit (you must read the rest to fully understand) I do not follow astrology but it says Leos are fiercely loyal to the last to their friends and mate, and this certainly is most true about myself. Throughout my life that loyalty has been both my bane (at times) and also my source of greatest joy.

I am the ultimate optimist. If the universe implodes tomorrow, I will go out with the final words " ... yea, but at least ... [ made for a great fireworks show], [... we finally get to see what's on the other side], [... I don't have to pay that dang cable bill any more], [ fill in your favorite thing here]. If you find the silver lining in EVERYTHING then we have common ground.

I don't have to change anything else in my description other than my future plans. I'm no different now than when I wrote the remainder of this profile several years before.
What I’m doing with my life
I have been a professional mariner (at varying levels), a captain and a boat builder for a good part of my life, but also an artist and electronic technician. I have been single now for about twelve years. Having been a working sailor in southern Louisiana (since 2005) makes it really difficult to date - so I didn't.

I retired this past year. My life is now about pursuing a dream that formed in my heart when I was twelve years old and learning to sail on the Chesapeake Bay. I now live on my own sailboat (as opposed to living on my boss's boat) docked in Southport, N.C. Shes an ol' girl and I am in the process of restoring her to the grand lady she once was - and better. Built by Chris Craft in the '60s that won't be too difficult. The next phase is to sail to Galveston, Texas and race with the best of them for a year or two. After that, possibly a larger cruising sailboat and course set for the Caribbean. At this point though, I set nothing in stone. I may find racing with the Cape Fear Yacht Club just as much fun. I'm really good at "playing it by the seat of my pants" (mixed metaphor - I know =)

I realize most people would think it's a bit nuts to give up a more "normal" lifestyle to do what I'm planing and I understand that. I'm not expecting a million of you ladies to charge down the dock to be my first mate, and that's OK. Since I began this adventure last fall I have been the happiest I have been in a long time. For me, my dream is an old one - older than me. It's the same dream sailors have had for thousands of years; to see the unseen over the horizon. Some may not understand that at all. Some may think they understand, but it's not worth giving up the T.V. and the picket fence. But maybe ... just maybe, there is a girl out there that truly knows and shares the feeling of adventure and curiosity and self challenge that is driving me. You, my dear, are the one I want to talk to.
I’m really good at
Oh ... I'm really good at a lot of things! 3D art and graphics and animation; SAILING!; Mechanics; Computers; Electronics; Philosophical and Scientific debates; working with my hands; cooking; baking; listening; conversation about ALL kinds of subjects, procrastination ............. er ............. when I get around to it; growing eatable things in the garden; understanding animals; Jack of all trades! ... Oh ... and modesty, too! =D
The first things people usually notice about me
That I am one that smiles easily and frequently so that the lines in my face resulting in such activity are permanently etched. They aren't wrinkles - it's permanent personality!!!!! My brother mostly notices that I only have a "hint" of gray in my hair - but that's because his is rapidly turning white! (Finally! Being the younger brother has an advantage! Ha-ha! ... no , really, I love my brother, but ... Ha-ha!!!)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
This one could be long, but for now I'll keep it simple. I like Jazz,
Beach music to shag by (lazy-man's-jitterbug - You girls from Carolina know what I'm talkin' 'bout), science fiction movies and books, and I'll eat anything ... I'm a sailor, what can I say.
Six things I could never do without
I don’t know! I’ve “done without” a lot of things at different times during the course of my life. I’ve come to realize that what a person WANTS and what a person NEEDS can be worlds apart.
Basically as long as you have food to fill your gut and a way to get in out of the rain, you don’t need much else to live.

Beyond that, self respect and a person to wrap your heart around makes all of life’s short-comings a whole lot more bearable.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the heck do I want to cook for dinner tonight! Good grief! It's a nightly thing! I can do some pretty nifty things in the galley but it seems a shame that I'm the only one around to enjoy it! Oh well - tonight it's crab stuffed mushrooms and tilapia poached in a white cheese and black pepper sauce, with honey glazed, wild green and black cow peas (hand picked growing out of the wharf bulkhead wall), , and a chocolate and coconut custard I "invented" last week. OH! and let's not forget - homemade (from scratch) dinner rolls! I think a LOT about different ways to bake bread! ...... mmmm ...... chocolate custard ...... hungry?=)
On a typical Friday night I am
um .......... like how long ago are we talking here? I USED to go out for dinner and dancing on a Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am a very romantic, warm hearted, physically natured fellow when I'm in love. ... and that's all I'll say about that!
You should message me if
Message me if you are really here to meet an ordinary but big hearted guy. I'm no pie-in-the-sky Prince Charming and won't pretend to be just to get your attention.

Message me if you like romantic, candle lit dinners with quiet conversation over coffee that goes well into the night.
