My self-summary
I'm a person who's more interesting to talk to than to read about. While I haven't yet led a scintillating life worthy of an E! True Hollywood story, I almost always can contribute something to the conversation, and I'd like to think that's worth something. I love to learn the facts and stories behind the details of our daily lives (who invented utensils? When did we start using them?), which I think can make a boring day much more interesting. I'm a bit like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory in this way- but I'm a lot easier to live with than him, I promise! I also have Asperger's Syndrome, a detail which I think is worth mentioning because it plays a considerable role in my life.

Also, I should probably put this upfront- I'm highly interested in adoption/fostering (of both animals and kids), so if we're going to be more than friends, like in the long run, you gotta want kids too. Otherwise, friendship is magic.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm gunning for a career in languages of some kind- either interpreting, translating, or a little bit of both. I have a great fascination with languages and spend much of my free time practicing Spanish. For a couple years I devoted myself to the study of botany, but when I realized that my brain isn't really built for science, I switched to something that came more naturally to me. I've always been one for words- translating them into a different language is a fantastic challenge. I'm currently conversational in Spanish, and, time willing, I will attempt to relearn basic ASL.

About a year ago, I left my job as an assisted living caretaker, helping an awesome and emotive guy with multiple disabilities. I currently volunteer regularly at both Centro Hispano and the Catholic Multicultural Center (or Centro Guadalupe) to improve my Spanish and also all the people there are really cool and stuff.
I’m really good at
Spanish
Animals
Healthy cooking
Writing snarky or self-righteous Facebook posts
Making flashcards (I make a lot of flashcards)
Avoiding chores and feeling guilty about it
DOING chores and feeling too exhausted to do anything else the rest of the day
The first things people usually notice about me
My height- I'm nearly 6 ft. I used to be mistaken for a third-grader when I was in kindergarten. Also, my bright red hair and thick glasses. My nervousness, and the fact that I never stop talking.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My top ten favorite movies are, in this order (this list is subject to occasional change): Lawrence of Arabia, No Country for Old Men, Birdman, High Fidelity, The Aviator, Strangers in Good Company, Persepolis, Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire, and Mary and Max.

As for music, I tend to gravitate towards oldies (especially from the '70s- lots of happy music, really miserable decade), but I do enjoy some current music. I consider my tastes eclectic, and listening to a song that tries absolutely nothing new is torture for me. Although it's rare that I enjoy more than two songs from any given band, there are certainly standouts: Billy Joel (who is my favorite of favorites, ever since before I could talk), Styx, Jason Mraz (first three studio albums), Matchbox 20, The Beatles, Elliott Smith, Ximena Sariñara, Seal, Calle 13, Muse, Fleet Foxes, Boston, Béla Fleck, Claude Bolling, Common Market, Elton John, Green Day, John Mayer (his early stuff), Wings/Paul McCartney, Yes, Awolnation, Yelawolf, Natalia Lafourcade, Los Bunkers, Ana Tijoux, The Shins, Gustavo Cerati, Maria Rita, Shakira, Cirse, Plastiko, Eruca Sativa, Buena Vista Social Club, Huevo, M.I.A, Lupe Fiasco (1st album only), Foo Fighters, Blues Traveler, The Beach Boys

I also ADORE classical composers, such as Brahms, Gliere, Bruckner, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Kurt Atterberg.... the list goes on and on.

For TV: Top Gear, Slings and Arrows, Seinfeld, M*A*S*H, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Futurama, Scrubs, Silicon Valley, Girls, 30 Rock, Daria, Mozart in the Jungle, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Downton Abbey, Broad City, New Girl, The Office, Friends, Orange is the New Black, Transparent

Food: I usually prefer to do my own cooking than to eat out (it's cheaper and usually healthier). I like simple stuff- a stew of onions, collards and beans, ramen with bok choy... If I am eating out, Lao/Vietnamese/Thai food is my first choice. I'm pretty sure Vietnamese restaurant owners made a deal with the devil somewhere down the line, which is why they seem to be able to obtain the best produce all year round.

Books: Sadly, my ADD can get in the way of me finishing any one book- however, I love magazines, newspapers, and interesting online articles. I try to spend more time learning other languages than reading things in English. I do love Harry Potter, though- of course. And there are plenty of books I've heard nothing but good things about that I KNOW I should read and I WILL ONE DAY DAMMIT.
Six things I could never do without
In no particular order:
1)Music
2)My family
3)Pets
4)Words
5)Good entertainment
6)Things to distract me from the fact that life is a meaningless, awkward venture that will ultimately end in me watching all my loved ones die and then I die and then everybody dies and then eventually the Earth is swallowed up by the sun and...
*ahem* I mean, uh.... puppies?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Languages (I translate common English phrases into Spanish whenever possible- gotta stay sharp!), the environment, my future, society, animal welfare, and how my actions and purchases may affect others.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out at home with my family (I live with my mom, my stepmom Lisa, my sister, and our 22 beloved pets).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Since I turned 17 I've been struggling on and off with some anxiety and depression. However, I'm medicated now and although I still have moments, overall I'm happy to report that I'm pretty damn... happy. I consider myself extremely lucky.
You should message me if
Make me laugh! Or make me think. If you can make me laugh AND think, you might be "the one".

Alternatively, you could message me if you are a "wonderer"- somebody who questions "why?" about everything. I'm not necessarily looking for an activist, but it's very important to me that my partner care at least a little about environmental issues, animal rights, and humanitarian causes. What I'm trying to say is, I'm a bleedin' heart liberal and I'm looking for another.

Also note that I am pretty new to the dating process, so bear with me here. If I'm honest, I'm not that sexual a person (well, in theory I am, but IRL... different story). That doesn't mean I'm not open to trying new things, but if you're more on the hyper-sexual side, things probably wouldn't work out for us as a couple.

Here are some more passions of mine (maybe you don't have anything else in common with me... but if you love anything listed below, message me anyway so we can gush about it together!):

Tasty tea;
Parrots and rats- my favorite pets (though of course I love cats and dogs, too);
Comic strips (like Calvin and Hobbes and Foxtrot, not graphic novels- nothing wrong with graphic novels of course, they're just not specifically my thing)
Going for long walks;
Cracked.com, and iwastesomuchtime, and these goofball movie critics at doubletoasted.com
O mándame un mensaje si simplemente quisieras practicar un poco de espanol!
