You've found a Midwestern guy with a sense of adventure who moved to NYC 15 years ago for what was supposed to have been a three year experience. Clearly I've been having a good time here in the City. Having someone to share it with would only make things better. Here are a few tidbits about my life and what makes me tick:
I’ve always been an active guy and I spent a lot of time either playing competitive sports or reading while growing up. I have a real competitive spirit and I love to break a sweat (not while reading, I feel I should be clear about that). A few of my favorite authors are John Irving, Bill Bryson, Twain, and Alexander Dumas. Bryson is from my home town and we share a similar sense of humor (so of course I find him hilarious). I wrote, directed, and acted in a number of musical comedies in college and I was a member of a comedy troupe for a while too. That doesn’t mean I walk around cracking jokes all the time but it does mean I consider a sense of humor to be important and you'll find I laugh easily and often. I’m also not the wacky sense of humor type of guy – usually a little drier than that. While going to school in the Midwest I worked for my university as a hiking and canoeing guide so you know I love the outdoors.
I think growing up in the Midwest in a family that was equal parts theatrical performers and lawyers gave me an interesting outlook on life. I got the tennis lessons and the summers in Telluride but I also have a real appreciation for the arts. I come from a family of story tellers and I'm told I can hang with the best of them. I was also given a healthy dose of the famous Midwestern work ethic growing up. I had to spend a great deal of time doing chores on my grandfather’s farm (I was woefully unaware of child labor laws). As a result of all of this I have a wicked backhand and I can saddle and ride my own horse while talking politics and current events (no one has tested me on this yet). Favorite sports - soccer, tennis, and skiing. I’ve coached and played all three and tennis has become both a competitive outlet for me and a social network. I captain a number of USTA teams year 'round and I really enjoy the comaraderie playing on a team provides and the friendships I've developed over the years. Those friendships mean the world to me and I consider my best friends to be part of my family.
So why am I here? I'm here because I’m at a point where I can take time to do the things I really enjoy and I'd like to have someone to share these things with. I imagine if you're here you feel the same way. I'd like to find a true compaion, someone I can share my life with, build a life with. I'm a kind, open minded, thoughtful man who really enjoys making people happy. I'm hoping to find that in a companion as well. I am looking for someone who has a sense of adventure and spontaneity, a good sense of humor, and a kind heart. I'm also looking for someone with a flexible personality. I'm not a big fan of rigid people (have to be able to roll with the punches - I love to spring surprises).
I don't have to be with someone who has the same interests that I do but having an open mind about what I like to do is important to me.
You know what, what I'm really looking for is someone I can have a great time with. The rest will work itself out. I love finding new places and things to do in the City. If you’re interested in adventuring around NYC and getting to know someone like me, drop me a line..
For music I need to freshen things up a bit. I'm forever a U2 fan. REM and David Byrne are long time favorites. But most of my more recent choices are all from SNL performances (Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, etc.). It would be nice to know someone hooked into the music scene better than I am. I will say tonight's random mix on my iPod was interesting: Johnny Cash, Stereo MC's, and Van Halen.
