My self-summary
Edit: According to my awards, I am now a bear with a pic-a-nic basket. Clearly, I have achieved my lifelong dream. No, not the part-time job at the Sizzler; I have become Yogi Bear.

There is a lot I could say about myself, really. Some good, some less so. Like my name suggests, I'm a nerd, and I enjoy the classic nerd things. But there is more to this cool cat's heart than D&D, lightsabers, and vidya games. I'd say more... but this is a summary, hurr. I'll end the summary with this: I'm a joker. Not a smoker or a midnight toker, though.

Also, I feel that I must put in a bit of a caveat. Or three. People seem to be misunderstanding me on a few things.

1. Yes, my religion is listed as 'Christian'. This is a bit misleading. I believe in a higher power. By default, I tend to identify it as the Christian God. I also believe in the teachings of Christ. Was Christ God's kid? Maybe. Did he die and get resurrected? Who knows? I consider myself a Christian in that I try and follow the teachings of Christ. Not in that I believe that there is some vengeful deity who, if we don't believe in him, we get to spend eternity suffering for it. To put it more accurately, I am a Deist, with leanings towards the teachings of Christ, not the bullshit special effects and religion that was added in later. So please, do me the favor of reading this, rather than seeing 'Christian' and assuming I'm 'one of THOSE Christians'. In fact, one of my loves is debating theology, both with "non-believers" and with people who do it for a living, and doing it in an intelligent manner. Intelligent debate makes me very happy.

2. Yes, one of the things I have listed in my 'looking for' is 'Casual Sex'. This isn't to say that hooking up is all I'm interested in. You'll note I checked ALL the boxes. I checked that particular one because I'm not averse to it. If it happens, if there's a 'click', or what have you, and sex becomes involved? I'm down. If there is no sex, and we end up just being friends? I can roll with that too. If you're looking for something more than just a one-night thing? I won't lose any sleep over not getting any. I put it there simply because I believe... I go with what happens. Flexibility is a wonderful thing.

3. When I do talk to you... I'm a bit of a flirt. If you have a problem with it, please, tell me. I will tone it down, I am capable of that. Otherwise, I tend to flirt. With friends, with the occasional stranger... it's fun to flirt. Just another fascinating nuance of human interaction. So please, do not get offended if I playfully flirt with you. I can assure you, you've nothing to fear. Any interaction I have on here, I'd prefer to be friends first.

I am intelligent, mischievous, and affectionate
What I’m doing with my life
Since January '12, I've been a full-time student, working on bettering myself and getting a nice, shiny AA in Psychology, as well as discovering a surprising interest in Geology. The joke is, no one knows more about stress than me. I plan to leave California, and then to further my education in the field of Psychology at either Cornell, Skidmore, or RPI.

After that, I've decided to combine my passions for the human body, as well as the human mind. My ultimate goal is to get a degree in psychology, certified for massage therapy, and to go into business for myself providing 'healing for the body, and the mind'. I figure it'll be a nice little niche.
I’m really good at
Cheering people up, through words, listening, silliness, or back rubs. Which I have a gift for, thus my interest in Massage Therapy.

I'm also not too shabby at writing and acting, though not serious enough about either to try my hand at turning them into anything more than a hobby. My intimate knowledge of the ins and outs of the English language, as well as low level OCD that causes typos to jump out at me, also makes me a hell of a proofreader.

Oh, and I will kick your ass at Tetris. I'm a gamer, have been since I was a wee sprout. And while I don't play competitively (meaning 'MUST WIN MUST WIN END OF WORLD IF I LOSE'), I do get competitive (meaning that I will generally not pull my punches, especially at a game I consider myself good at.)

I'm pretty handy with a plastic lightsaber, too. Oh yeah.

I love cooking, and have picked up a bit of skill with it. Sadly, I rarely have time/energy to do so of late. So I've gotten really good at 'quick and dirty' cooking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a big guy. Tall, broad of shoulder, large framed, and packing a little extra. I also tend to wear black (it's slimming, and it goes with everything), a long coat, and an assortment of hats (including the dreaded FEDORA. Remarkable how a piece of haberdashery has developed such an irrational loathing on the internet) So, physically, people tend to see this, and some have been known to even be intimidated by it.

When they actually start to talk to me, they notice that I'm a joker. Though not necessarily jovial, it doesn't take much for me to make a joke. Even when I'm dead tired, I'll typically manage to spout something at least semi-witty... if a little nonsensical.

Sarcasm comes easily to me. This has been known to drive people away. If you're not a fan of sarcasm and light barbs in jest, then usually you won't be a fan of me for too long.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't so much have favorite books, as I do series and authors. So, without further ado, a brief list:
Piers Anthony (His Xanth and Incarnations of Immortality series please me greatly.
Robert Heinlein
Robert Asprin (I recently re-read through the Myth Inc. novels, and am reading through the Phule's Company series and loving it.)
Douglas Adams pretty much goes without saying. But I'm going to say it anyway.
The Hunger Games trilogy was kind of a surprise for me, but I absolutely loved it. Kind of a Battle Royale for this generation.
Terry Pratchett (How can you not be a fan of Discworld?)
J.K. Rowling (While David Yates may have done his best to screw up the fifth and sixth movies, I quite enjoyed the Harry Potter books)
I also read a lot of technical books, especially anything to do with Psychology
Also, Steven Brust's 'To Reign in Hell' is a favorite of mine.
I could continue listing books and authors for ages. If you'd like to know more, just ask!

As far as movies go, my tastes are fairly varied. Some of my all time favorites include:
The Princess Bride (Also one of my favorite books)
Star Wars (The entire series, though Empire is my favorite)
Star Trek (I haven't seen the new reboot, but the old school movies still rock my socks. Two and Four are the best)
Boondock Saints ("I just want to cuddle....")
UHF has my main man Weird Al. Thus, it is obviously going to be in my top ten list.
Johnny Dangerously, The Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future are just some of those classic 80's movies that illustrate why I love the decade so much.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Not just the movie, but the series itself. Much love for both)
Monty Python (Anything and everything. Especially Grail)
And much much more!

Right now, there are all of three shows that currently run that I give much of a damn about. And really, only two of those shows are ones I watch on a regular basis.
Jeopardy I'll watch if I hear it's on, but usually I'm so busy with schoolwork and other shenanigans that I miss it. Still, I love the broad knowledge aspect of it, and am usually pretty good. It is my intention to be on the show at least once before I die.
The Legend of Korra has already proved itself to be an amazing sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and is, at present, the ONLY show I personally have the DVR set to record. If only every show had as excellent music, writers, and characterization.
Not ashamed to admit it: Friendship is Magic is amazing. But then, that's hardly surprising, considering Lauren Faust's previous work on The Powerpuff Girls. Great writing, excellent characterization, surprisingly catchy songs, the ability to blow the Bechdel Test clear out of the water, and all the lolrandumb that is so prevalent in cartoons today is almost entirely contained in one character... who ends up having redeeming qualities that make her more than just 'and then Pinkie does something weird in the scene. Cue laughter'. It took me a while to actually sit down and watch the series, but I knew even before I started that I'd enjoy it.
Barring that, and very rarely catching an episode of NCIS, everything else I watch is old.
Star Trek
M*A*S*H is still a longtime favorite of mine.
Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, The Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo all deserve mention.
And yes, the show is still running, but I stopped watching it long ago, to better preserve my memories of when it was still good: Pokemon. Once the trio parted ways, the show was just... suddenly much lower quality.

Also, Netflix is great. I've used it to start watching BBC's Sherlock, and I must say I'm in love.

I am rather eclectic when it comes to my tastes in music. My favorites are Jazz, Classical, Rock, video game music, and various forms of electronica. I'm a huge fan of "Weird Al" Yankovic, and have been since I was a kid. I don't listen to a lot of newer music, really. Most of my tastes come from the 70's and 80's, as well as even older. Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin and a lot more can also be found on my typical playlist, side by side with Rick Astley, Haddaway, and Nightwish

I don't have A favorite, but I quite enjoy potatoes, cheesecake, potatoes, popcorn, potatoes, bacon, potatoes, the occasional cheeseburger, potatoes, Italian, potatoes, Mexican.... okay, I like a lot of food. And a lot of potatoes. I'm fat, and Irish, what do you expect? Sadly, I've been having to steer away from several of these things while counting calories.

I have a lot of other things I'm into that I didn't list, if you'd like to know, just ask!
Six things I could never do without
Now, from looking at other profiles, I've noticed that it is incredibly hard to count to six on this question. So, let's see if I can manage, shall we?

Ein! Electronics.... My life has always been rather centered around technology. From the almighty Internet, to video games, from cell phone to computers, I am truly a product of the Digital Age.

Dos! Music! I cannot imagine a life without music. I've worked as a DJ, and so have thousands and thousands of music files on my computer. My phone is a music player. Hell, sometimes I'll use my DS (one of the old, fat ones, hell yeah) to listen to music. One of the things I fear most is losing my hearing.

Trois! To quote Thomas Jefferson: "I cannot live without books". Reading is so important to me, I taught myself how to do it. And haven't stopped since. I am never without SOME form of written word to read through. From technical manuals, to graphic novels, to books of poetry, to short stories and novels, I will read just about anything given the opportunity. Including the nutrition information on food.

Shi! I am a bit of an affection whore. I think that cuddles rank right up there with oxygen, food, and water in terms of 'basic necessities of life'. From a simple hug, to back rubs, to snuggles and other bits of physical affection, I crave it all. That's not to say I'm not all for the less physical forms of romance, but be aware, any relationship with me will feature many, MANY hugs and cuddles.

Fem! Communication. Not just basic talking to people, mind. I mean actual communication. All too often I see issues arise, drama spring up, bullshit occur due to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, or a simple lack of information. I try to make sure that people are on the same page as I, and appreciate it immensely when others do likewise. It's the key to any sort of dealings with another, from romance to lust to friendships to simple business transactions.

Sei! Roleplaying. Yes, I'm a huge nerd. I thought we had covered this. From Dungeons and Dragons to Fallout, to roleplay on the Internet, to acting, I love the opportunity to slip into another life, another role. Why? Some sense of bettering my own life by pretending to have a different one? Perhaps. I just enjoy the ability to become something else, and the interactions one can have as another. One of the reasons that RPGs are one of my favorite genres of game.

Sev- ah, I see. You almost got me, OKCupid.... I'm onto you

Well, there you have it. A successful count off of the six things that make my life livable.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Things that will never be. For example, I have put much time into serious thought of how life would be bettered by the existence of Pokemon. I like to take a topic, no matter how insane or impossible, and run with it. I try and do so in a logical manner, for example, the effect of Pokemon on the economy, interpersonal relations, and the military.

Things that may be. Future lives, future jobs, future situations. I have thought about things from my own death, to my wedding, to what I would do should I ever come into a large lump sum of money. From long-term daydreams, to short-term 'If I get this job, then I can do x, y, z, and a, leading into n'.

Writing down and examining my dreams, as they are invariably bizarre and highly intriguing to me. Finding possible interpretations for these sessions of somnolent schizophrenia pleases me greatly.

"This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph"
On a typical Friday night I am
Over at a friend's, playing D&D or Pathfinder, drinking Rum and Coke, occasionally playing Rock Band (I do Vocals and Bass, mostly) or Borderlands. Or at home, reading some new interesting bit on the internet.

On more responsible Fridays, doing any homework I may have not finished over the four previous days. But more often, that's what Sundays are for.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Tuxedo Mask was my first indication that I wasn't completely straight, but it took about another four years for me to realize it. That's right. My first man-crush was Tuxedo Mask.
You should message me if
If you're looking for, well, a good time. Be that as friends, partners, lovers, or anything, I like to have fun, and as a result, tend to prove rather entertaining. You could also message me if you're looking for someone to have intelligent debate with, especially on matters theological and philosophical.

I am currently looking particularly for a few competent roleplayers interested in playing D&D, Pathfinder, Star Wars D20, or a few other systems. If you're interested in tabletop RPGs, hit me up. Bonus points if you're local and can meet the schedule my group has. Even more bonus points if you can provide a new place to play.
