My self-summary
After about nine+ attempts at this profile, I've decided I'm hopeless at writing about myself. So here goes!

A few fun facts about about me:

-I once came in second-place in a pie eating contest
-In my life I have owned no fewer than three Kenny G albums
-For one day in 2009, I was a multi-millionaire
-I've sung Bohemian Rhapsody exactly nine times for Karaoke
-My childhood pets included, but were not limited to, a pot-bellied pig, two ferrets, and a rabbit named Bunnicula

Also, I lived in NYC until recently and it was an amazing experience, and I love talking about it. I'm sure my friends will tell you its annoying and they're probably right, but I'm shameless in this matter. So please ask me all about it :)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working on a PhD in psychology, specializing in contemplative neuroscience. Which is a fancy way of saying I study the effects of practices like meditation, prayer, yoga etc on the mind and body.

In my free time I cheer for my Hawks, Dawgs, M's and try to learn to love soccer. I hike and backpack, I read sci-fi, I flail about in my primitive attempts at cooking food more complex than Trader Joe's stir fry. I just finished season 5 of Game of Thrones and now I don't know what to do.
I’m really good at
Public speaking. This has been a big part of my career and I love doing it! I get a rush out of getting up there. And I'm a big sucker for embarrassing karaoke.

I also like to write, and think I have some talent at it. I blog (rarely these days with school), and I'm always working on book ideas that sound glorious when I talk about them but mysteriously never seem to get written...

Being quiet.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books could go on for pages! Some greatest hits:

I'm a big big sci-fi fan. I love me some Frank Herbert and Isaac Asimov. Card is really high on my list, even though I'm not totally comfortable with some of his political views. And Neil Gaiman. And Phillip K. Dick is amazing! I definitely need to read more of him. Also Tolkien for the win.

Non-fiction-wise I read a lot of meditation-oriented material, both for school, and because awesome. Also a lot of history, and some political and intellectual history stuff. But mostly sci-fi because I'm a big nerd.

TV: Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Simpsons, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Star Trek, Sherlock

Movies: Lots and lots and lots. Besides, you read my book and tv lists so I'm sure you can guess these yourself.

Food: Pretty much everything except raw tomatoes and tripe.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Not thinking

My friends and family

Random nonsense that's usually irrelevant to the task at hand. Like when I'm hiking and I have the same Wu tang song running through my mind for three hours.

What I'm going to eat next (sad but true)
You should message me if
You've made it this far. Clearly your nerd tolerance is high and your interest has been piqued! Only a message now can sate your curiosity :)
