My self-summary
How do you explain who you are to people with a few words in a box?

I've moved a lot in my life, including six countries, which has left me with some strange stories. I still love traveling and seeing new things, but probably not going to be moving a lot anymore. That said, just made the trek to Seattle after four years in Austin.

I live my life according to my two mottoes. First, "if you're not having fun, you're doing something wrong". I think that one's pretty self explanatory. The second was something I inherited from my best friend. "Never settle". Simple but pervasive, it affects pretty much everything I do. I always have a goal and I won't stop until I have achieved it, and that seems to have worked out pretty well so far.
What I’m doing with my life
Moving from games back into more mainstream software development, so it's a bit of a transition time for me. Still, some day I'd like to open my own game studio. Oops, scratch that. Decided the traditional software role was kind of boring, so back in games. Unexpectedly, ended up staying in Seattle.

I'm working on a novel series, which I might one day try to get published. It's mostly just something fun and expressive, though I haven't let anybody read any of it in years.
I’m really good at
Whatever I want to be, which is everything. I'm also fantastically modest. I really do hate this question...

Making people laugh, provided they have a dark sense of humor. Leaving the extra 'u' out when I'm spelling things like color, and replying with a smile when I want ham and I'm asked if Canadian bacon would be ok instead (seriously, this happens a lot).
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd hope there's no one good answer to this or I'd be a pretty boring person. I suppose it could be that I'm very opinionated. Why don't you tell me?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: It, The Dark Tower, The Count of Monte Cristo, Ender's Game. I don't know, I like a lot of books, especially if they spend the time to really develop their own world. I like most of Stephen King's books, a lot of classics, and epic fantasy.

Movies: This could be a pretty eclectic mix and I've seen so many movies it's weird to try to pick favorites, so I'll just list whatever comes to mind. Aliens, Lord of the Rings, Princess Bride, Pan's Labyrinth, V for Vendetta, Seven Samurai, How to Train Your Dragon, Man on Fire, Shaun of the Dead, almost anything by Pixar and a lot of old Disney movies.

TV: I actually stopped watching TV a couple years ago. Most shows I liked either got canceled or just imploded, though I've just started watching The Walking Dead on a recommendation and it's kind of cool. I'm not a fan of episodic content, so most shows really don't hook me. Some of my favorites are Firefly, Deadwood, X-Files(early stuff only), South Park and The Daily Show.

Music: Grunge, heavy metal, classical. I don't know, if I like it... I like it. If I had to list groups, Evanescence, The Offspring, Green Day, Sum 41, Live (only their first album), Three Day's Grace, Godsmack, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin. I also have a strange affection for Irish folk music. Go figure.

Food: Anything not spicy.
Six things I could never do without
My family, friends, computer, a quiet place to relax, challenges to overcome and roller coasters.
Strange fact, when I was living in Japan I actually made a point of going to ride one of the fastest roller coasters in the world, called Dodonpa. As luck would have it, it broke down two days before I went and wouldn't be fixed until after I left the country. Worst. Day. Ever.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Stupid things that nobody, myself included, care about, like first world problems. My mind's always on overdrive. It's why I don't like going to bed.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends watching a movie, or maybe playing pool or poker. That is unless I'm feeling burnt out, in which case I'm at home staying up till 4am doing nothing in particular because I don't feel like going to bed. Love to sleep, hate going to bed...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm Canadian and I don't say "eh" or "aboot".
You should message me if
You don't smoke or do drugs, both are really big turn offs.
You don't mind that I don't want to be around cats. It's not that I dislike them, it's just that I'm really allergic, so I can't stand to be in the same house as one. Might need to start getting allergy shots or something...

I really appreciate honesty and intelligence in people. Anybody who's known me for more than an hour will figure this one out. I simply don't tolerate people who are deceptive or manipulative. It's just not worth the effort. Also, despite what some might think, intelligence is sexy... as is the ability to spell.
