My self-summary
If there's one thing you'll learn about me, it's that I love bicycling. I'm also a complete nerd, geek, dweeb, whatever you want to call someone who enjoys being intellectually stimulated. I also have more than my share of ability to listen and to care for other people, but I also have come to a point in my life where I want to take care of myself, physically and emotionally. I'd love to meet someone to share that experience.

I am funny, smart, and caring
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently working a computer firm in Ames, Iowa. I will be starting Iowa State University in the Spring of 2014 to pursue a degree in Computer Science. I am a novice runner, who has a half-marathon under his belt and is planning to compete in a full marathon this coming year. Oh, and I love bicycling. A lot. A whole lot, in fact. I also play golf to varying degrees of success, I like-but-don't-love to cook, and as a former radio announcer, I am very selective in my choice in music. I also play a lot of video games (PC, no console games, usually) and hope to make a living as a voice-over narrator some day. THAT would be sweet.
I’m really good at
Gift-giving. It's the one unfiltered talent I have. I'm also fiercely loyal to friends. I'm also really good at being there for people. I hug like I want to leave a mark on your soul. I seem to be one of a vanishing few people in the world who knows how to use an apostrophe. I also do the normal guy-stuff of reaching stuff on tall shelves, opening jars, killing spiders, and handyman chores (not involving a hammer--I'm terrible with that :)
The first things people usually notice about me
Hopefully my eyes. They tend to pop when I smile. I take a little bit to loosen up (don't we all?), but I hopefully can hold my own in a back-and-forth first date.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Where to start? Anything by Frank Herbert--"Dune" is my all-time favorite book, edging out Dan Simmons' "Hyperion" series by a nose. William Gibson and David Brin are also favorite writers. I love GOOD science fiction, which rules out those Star Wars books they keep cranking out all the time. I'm currently reading a bunch of non-fiction. Favorite authors tend to be scientific, like Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse-Tyson, and Jerry Coyne. I also recently bought "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire," and I love "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich." "Band of Brothers" was marvelous, as was "All Quiet on the Western Front." Any synopsis of my reading tastes will take a while.

Movies: I think Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy was pitch-perfect. Lord of the Rings, Animal House, Dogma. I love nature/science documentaries...David Attenborough is my hero in that regard.

Television: PBS programs like "NOVA" and the carpentry/home improvement shows on the weekend. I also think Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have the greatest jobs in the world on "Mythbusters."

Music: U2 and Rush are favorites. I have VERY eclectic tastes.

Comedy: I'm a huge fan of George Carlin. Patton Oswalt and Lewis Black, as well.

Food: I'm trying to let Asian grow on me, but I'm not sure how it's succeeding. I love Mexican and Italian...too much. I make a mean homemade pesto chicken pizza.
Six things I could never do without
My bicycle(s)--and yes, I'm cheating by using the plural
Cell phone
My cat
My family
GOOD friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to do with the second half of my life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Home alone, puttering around on the computer with the World's Sweetest Cat observing. I am also trying to interact with two-legged creatures more often.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a terrible dancer, and I'm more shy around strangers than I care to admit.
You should message me if
You want to meet someone who values loyalty and caring.
