My self-summary
I'm a small-town kid at heart, still adjusting to the rhythm of city and suburb life. My future is still a work in progress, but I've always dreamed of having a wildly non-traditional career which would take considerable effort to explain to strangers. I suppose "ordinary" is a word I stray away from if possible.
I have an affinity for politics and government, so that's where my sights are set at the moment.

In unrelated news: I'm an INTP
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, I'm working a job that allows lots of free time to read, daydream, and search for employment in the DC area. It's been the perfect post-graduation job, but now I've recovered from academia, and I'm ready to move on to bigger and better things.

My social life has stalled a bit with my work schedule being so odd. But I'm living in Tysons now, so I'm on the lookout for some new, local, like-minded people to hang out with.
I’m really good at
I did Forensics/public speaking in high school and for a while in college, so I suppose I've got some skillz in that area.
Overall, I'm kind of a jack of all trades; if you need help putting together Ikea furniture or pondering the possibility of unifying the sciences and humanities, I'm your man. Specialization = death; I'm keeping my options wide open.
The first things people usually notice about me
Most old people I meet assume I played football in high school. Ha. "No, but I was in the marching band!"
My broad shoulders and height were wasted on gayer things.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I am very inconsistent in my tv watching habits, but there are definitely some shows that stand out as favorites:
West Wing, 30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Rec, Lost, Breaking Bad, Duck Dynasty (very sophisticated stuff), MasterChef Junior (jk, maybe), The Daily Show, Check it Out! with Steve Brule. I'll keep adding to this.

I just never jumped on the movie bandwagon. Sitting in one place for that long is not my idea of fun.

*Under construction...*
Betty Who, Bastille, Lorde, Chvrches, Ms Mr, Dan Croll, Alex Young, Diplo, Krewella, Purity Ring, Avicii, Goldroom, Young Galaxy, Sara Bareilles, Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding, Black Bear, James Blake, Rihanna, Nicky Romero, Lykke Li, Swedish House Mafia, Hoodie Allen, Mac Miller, Azealia Banks, Ed Sheeran, ... The list could go on forever. These just stand out right now. I spend a lot of time on Soundcloud trying to find new things. I'll listen to any genre, but I'm picky.

I didn't really like reading when I was younger, but now I'm trying to read more often. Thoreau's Walden was a great summer read, and now I'm working on some E. O. Wilson (my favorite person ever).

No mustard and no weird sea creatures. Pretty much everything else is fair game.
Six things I could never do without
My car
Internet. Duh.
Dogs, cats, and all things cute.
Jackets - the only thing I really enjoy shopping for.
Nature (luckily, it's kind of ubiquitous...)
Whatever idea is currently bouncing around in my head
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything? I like to observe and analyze my surroundings, so if you are in a room with me, I'm likely trying to determine what is going through your mind. Needless to say, my thoughts are usually not terribly productive; I just enjoy pondering life. I have definitely had my midlife/existential crisis already, so hopefully I can avoid that joyful time later in life.
If I had to narrow in on some legitimate topics of thought, usually I'm stuck on some obscure topic that has to do with theoretical physics, psychology, religion, or government. My brain does its own thing; I'm enjoying the ride.
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, in the past (all the way back through high school), most of my Fridays/weekends were spent traveling for speech tournaments, but now that I'm finished with that period of my life, I definitely use Fridays for me-time. I'd really like to start spending more time getting to know the DC music scene, but I have yet to do that.
I try to avoid clubs and crazy drunken escapades on most occasions, but that is not to say I haven't enjoyed my fair share of wasted Friday nights. I've just never felt super comfortable with the gay club scene.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like men. Surprise!
You should message me if think we have something in common. I'm not looking for hook ups or anything purely physical.
