My self-summary
I'm a quirky combination of intellect and fun. I taught at a community college for a while, but at the moment I'm dedicated to writing a PhD dissertation. On occasion I will Bikram yoga in the hot room. Art openings, noisy music shows, dancing at new wave clubs, and hanging out with friends at house parties are my preferred weekend activities. I love art, philosophy, chamber music, intelligent conversation, karaoke, parties, and people-watching. My obsession for my electric guitar and synthesizer collection is only matched by my book collection. I'm an interminably critical thinker: I like to get to the bottom of things (even though there are no bottoms). I'm passionately apathetic and apathetically passionate. I am an urban creature of the night and I have a certain -ness about me.

ENTP if you're into intellectual astrology.

I'm thinking of imposing a 1 small-pet limit on those I court. Geez that seems so mean. Well, some of us like to travel….

[And thanks to Pierre Bourdieu for his theory of Cultural Capital]

Skip if it's too painful...

♥ Books
I am a voracious reader. Unlike others who say they read a lot, I actually do. I read mostly continental philosophy and theory, and books on music and aesthetics.

Nietzsche, Foucault, Bataille, Descartes, Hegel, Heidegger, Sartre, Camus, Jameson, Attali, Kafka, Adorno, de Sade, Dawkins, Kuhn, Hume, Schopenhauer, Hebdige, Zizek.

♥ Film
I like weird movies; very weird movies (so I mixed a few not-so-weird ones in there too).

The Doom Generation, Tetsuo (the Iron Man), Zardoz, the House of Yes, Tron, Clockwork Orange, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Less Than Zero, Pink Flamingos, Harold and Maude, Trainspotting, Blade Runner, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Some Like It Hot, Breakfast on Pluto, Donny Darko, Ma Piel Que Habito, Gegen die Wand, Un Chien Andalou, Old Boy, the Holy Mountain, Fantastic Planet, Velvet Goldmine, Brazil, the Cremaster Series.

♥ Live Shows
I mostly go to noise music shows for my research.
I also like to go to art openings. Sometimes I go to see local bands in LA, like Fancy Space People, the Centimeters, Bestial Mouths, Tearist, and Egrets on Ergot.

♥ TV Shows
The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Twin Peaks, the Prisoner, Voltron, Red Dwarf, the Young Ones, Robot Chicken, Liquid Television..
(I don't really do TV)

♥ Salad Fingers

♥ Arts
Futurism, Dada, Surrealism, New York School, Fluxus, Droidism, -ism culture in general.... Of course, the best part about art is ogling the artsy-fartsy nerds who go to openings. Yep, that's me.

♥ Attire
I have an obsession with striped shirts: I'm a t-shirt and blazer guy or a t-shirt and cardigan guy. Skinny suits and skinny ties for special occasions.

You made it to the end!

On a typical Friday night I am
...at the party.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
...is that I don't share my private life in a public forum.
You should message me if
Short-Short Version:
★ You want to go somewhere for a drink, have a conversation, and figure out our compatibility.

Extended Version:
1. You are creative or appreciate creativity.
2. You are dogmatic only with your intellectual curiosity.
3. You enjoy quoting philosophers and other literary figures.
4. You enjoy poking fun at people who quote philosophers and other literary figures, including - and especially - yourself.
5. You are a kick-ass person.
6. You don't hate fun.

Hater Version:
If your profile says something like --
1. I like long romantic walks on the beach.
2. I'm living life to the fullest.
3. I love to laugh.
4. Music is my life.
-- I will never be able to get over your cliches. Ouch.

I've already dated the cartoon in this video, and it ended in disaster.

More Hateraid:
I hate dating too! but I'm addicted to it, and you probably are too. I quit my account for about 7 months (March 2014), yet, here we are again, giving it another go.
My optimism is tempered with a robust skepticism.
I must have fun, so I'll take you on a fun date anyway, what the hell!

Hope:
There must be a few of you on here who meet my standards of intelligence, attractiveness, and creativity.
You don't need to pursue a PhD to be intelligent (but it doesn't hurt).
You don't have to be an artist to be creative (but it doesn't hurt).
Attractiveness... so interactive with the other two: hard to define.
