My self-summary
I am a mild mannered mathematician who is retired from the Department of Defense.

I have two grown sons who are incredible fathers and both married to Japanese women.

Along with Rod Stewart, I am passionate about the World’s Greatest Hobby (model railroading) and so, this is where I get my Nom de Plume, “DaphitedFan” as in the “Gorre and Daphetid.” I am planning a model railroad that could have existed in 1948 in Vermont and New Hampshire. I find it fascinating doing the historical research to recreate this halcyon period in rural New England.

For a number of years, I would teach mathematics at a local university and I especially enjoyed working with students from many different cultures and nationalities. One of the most satisfying aspects of teaching was to get really difficult mathematics across to students. I would particularly enjoy spending Saturdays with them before exams.

I love the arts and I especially enjoy going to concerts and seeing operas both in New York and at NJPAC. I have enjoyed going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, the Frick, the Guggenheim and the New York Botanical Gardens.
What I’m doing with my life
Have retired recently after working for the Army for 30+ years. Presently doing restoration work on my house and taking the time to study all sorts of interesting things.
I’m really good at
Remembering things. So for example, whenever I teach . . . no notes!
The first things people usually notice about me
I am a very nice guy who sometimes burns the candle at both ends.

In the last year and one-half I have become a huge fan of Queen. I mean, really, just how many astrophysicists are rock stars? I particularly enjoyed the "Brighton Rock" solo and the preceding improv by Freddie Mercury at Wembley. Once upon a time there was a human voice that could do that. Just stunning.
Food: sushi, sashimi, fish pudding, strawberry and rhubarb pie, steak and kidney pie. :)
Six things I could never do without
my two sons and their families; my cell phone; a computer; tea; something to read; friends
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How this country is going to survive in the 21st century.
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday nights are for relaxing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If we meet, I will share that with you.
You should message me if
If anything here interests you. If you would like to be a penpal or if you would like to be a friend or more than that. I would say especially more that that.
