My self-summary
I recently moved from Florida to Virginia. I know very few people up here, so I'd just like to meet some people. I hate going to events where I don't know anyone, so if there was still an "activity partners" option, I'd have that checked.
What I’m doing with my life
Living it. I spent the last few years working on my career and avoiding personal entanglements. While I want to keep at the former, the latter isn't healthy in the long-term, so I'd like to develop more relationships with people outside of my work world.
I’m really good at
I'm not sure I'm REALLY good at anything. I'm sorta good at data analysis, but I know a lot of people who are better. I was a pretty good musician, but I haven't played in a decade. I'm a decent writer, but my muse abandoned me at a truck stop in Biloxi (I've never been to Biloxi).
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm heavy. It's something I'm working on reducing, but when I went from a floor job to a desk job, I didn't change my lifestyle to match, and my weight got out of control. That reinforced some of my natural reluctance to be socially active, and it became a self-reinforcing vicious cycle. I'm working to break that cycle.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read constantly. Most of the fiction I read is science fiction or fantasy - Elizabeth Moon, David Drake, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, and Glen Cook are favorites. I also read a lot of non-fiction, since I enjoy learning odd things and would like to write myself.

I don't go out to the movies often. I don't like to sit still in one place for that long.

For music, I've started listening to more European (or European-style) symphonic metal - Epica, Kamelot, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Apocalyptica, and Pain are all on my current playlist. I also have some random things on my playlist from other bands, ranging from Pink Floyd to The Ten Tenors to Santana to Iron Horse. I'm not picky about music, as long as it has some complexity to it. I was a percussionist and bassoonist who played (and heard) all different kinds of shows growing up, so my musical tastes can be pretty eclectic.

For food, on the other hand, I am somewhat picky, but it's a random pickiness. I'll try pretty much anything, but what I like or don't like is totally random. I'm mildly allergic to raw onion, but cooked onion is fine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How OKCupid is incentivized to fail, because success means losing users, but not fail TOO badly, because frustrated users will also leave.
You should message me if
You don't necessarily expect to hear back tomorrow - I take random breaks from looking at this.

You have something more interesting to say than just "Hi, who are you?"

You can actually use (relatively) proper English. I don't necessarily expect perfect spelling or grammar, but if I need a netspeak gibberish translator, forget it.
