My self-summary
I'm originally from New York City, but moved to the San Francisco Bay area more than 15 years ago.

I am a scientist & businessman (engineer with an MBA) with the heart of an artist (an aspiring writer dreaming of eventually writing the great American novel).

My Myers-Brigg personality type is ENTP, which is described as clever, cerebrally and verbally quick, enthusiastic, outgoing, innovative, flexible, loyal, and resourceful.

I'm actually a bit of an introverted extrovert... I tend to be a bit reserved when I first meet people, and typically prefer small intimate groups to large crowds.

I'd rather play boardgames than watch ballgames. Growing up, I was more apt to be on academic (math, academic olympics, and debate) teams than athletic ones.

I have limited travel experience and am in awe of how well-traveled everyone else on this site seems to be! I've driven cross-country (twice), and traveled to Texas and Chicago on business, but I never got to enjoy these trips. Someday, when scheduling and finances allow it, I would like to travel for pleasure.

I'm hoping to find love with someone special, but I'm also open to just making new friends and having fun new experiences.

Lastly, I can't see if you "like" me on the quickmatch module. If you did, please send me a message so we have a chance to connect with each other!

Thanks for visiting my little corner of this site! :)
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a technical project manager by day, and a dad by night.

I'm divorced and co-parenting my kids. I have 3 kids - a son (17) and two daughters (9 & 12).

My free time is limited to the alternate weekends, and weeknights when my kids are not with me.

I'm up for experiencing some new hobbies/adventures... so I am open to any interesting suggestions! :)

A few of the hobbies/adventures I've experienced through either Meet-ups or signing up for classes include: ballroom dancing (introductory-only), board gaming nights, comedy nights, Dungeons & Dragons role-playing, hiking, hot yoga, improv, indoor rock climbing, Karaoke, kart racing, laser tag, parkour, and Stand-Up Paddle-boarding (SUP).

Most years, I take the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge and try to write a novel in 30 days. I have to confess that I have yet to succeed... but it's always an interesting ride. :P

While the meet-ups and new activities can be fun and exciting, what I really want is to find someone special to relax and cuddle with. :)

When I'm with my kids, fun time usually involves taking them to the park (or pool during the summer) for free play, hiking/biking, karaoking, or staying at home and playing Wii/PS2 or card/board games

... and just recently, we've started wandering around trying to catch Pokemon. :)
I’m really good at
Taking care of the people I love, and being a reliable friend.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told I have a nice smile and laugh. :)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - For fiction, I like Scifi/fantasy... I recently read Ready Player One about a futuristic virtual society obsessed with the 80's. I'm also a fan of the Dresden Files series about a wizard P.I. in Chicago and am eagerly awaiting the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (more familiar to tv fans as the HBO Game of Thrones series).

In terms of non-fiction, a few years ago, I really liked A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jerod Diamond. I've also enjoyed a couple of pseudo biographies, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson.

Movies - I like action/adventure with a dash of humor. My favorite movie is Back to the Future. My favorite romantic comedy is Shakespeare in Love.

Shows - For many years I did not have cable, so I my television watching consisted of binge watching DVD season sets of a series. I enjoy mostly sci-fi/fantasy - most recent shows include Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, and The Walking Dead. I usually don't watch reality television, but I did enjoy a few seasons of The Amazing Race.

Music - I tend to listen to audiobooks or podcasts rather than music. My favorite podcasts are NPR's This American Life, Fresh Air and Intelligence Squared.

When I do listen to music, I'm tend towards Top 40 soft rock from the 80's and 90's. Also, I get bombarded with the latest teen pop when my girls are around.

Food - I enjoy eating most types of cuisine, and am willing to try anything once. When cooking for my kids, I tend to rotate between Chinese, Italian, Mexican and pizza (yes, pizza qualifies for its own category).
The six things I could never do without
1- My kids - they drive me crazy, but that's their job :D
2- A sense of humor - in particular, the ability to laugh at myself.
3- My iPhone
4- Brain teasers - I love solving puzzles (sudoku, cryptographs, word jumbles, etc.), especially ones that involve taking a fresh approach to solving a problem.
5- Audiobooks - they allow me to "read" while multi-tasking. :)
6- Pillows - soft and cuddly :)
On a typical Friday night I am
when I have my kids, we often go out for dinner, and then have a movie night at home.

When I'm kid-free, I'm either home relaxing with a book/DVD or out at a meet-up event... but I'd rather be out on a date or cuddling up with someone. :)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Although I'm originally from New York City, I prefer Chicago-style pizza.

Although I enjoy playing board games, I've never gotten any good at chess.

I've never been to a professional ballgame, or gone camping.
