My self-summary
I'm rad.
What I’m doing with my life
I adopted a rescue pup! Spending a lot of time getting him trained and acclimated to me and my home. Wonderful to have a dog again!

His name is Ramza. He has an instagram DingoesAteMyChocobo , because I'm apparently that guy now in less than 2 months of dog ownership.

I switched careers a few years ago and am still getting used to the weird sensation of actually enjoying what I do and being appreciated at work.

I own a house. I decided to gut it for the most part and renovate. It's... ongoing.

I spend a lot of my free time reading because I am a nerd like that. I try to find time for playing board games and video games with friends when I can. I like to swim when it's warm. I have no aversion to watching TV, though usually just Netflix or something OnDemand.

I try to travel when possible (though the house has eaten up a lot of my time & money for this lately, I admit).
I’m really good at
Dry humor.
Making chili.
Petting dogs.
Pan-searing steak.

I'm also really good at instigating pointless culinary debates that get fairly heated on Facebook. Friendships were tested (and ultimately strengthened I hope) over the recent french fry debate.
The first things people usually notice about me
Beard. Hazel eyes. Long eyelashes for a dude.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Impossible to list it all without this being huge, but here's a few samples from each area:

Books: "Good Omens" is probably my favorite book. Anything by Gaiman, Vonnegut, Steven Brust, William Gibson, Lois McMaster Bujold or Brandon Sanderson. I'm all over the place, but mostly read fiction.

Recent good reads:
The Adventures of Joe Harper;
Dune (re-read, haven't read it in ages)
The Dresden Files (the whole series... I got on a bit of a roll there);

Movies: Comedies are generally my favorites, but A Few Good Men, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Big Fish, Tombstone, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Star Wars are some faves.

TV (All time): Coupling (UK), Firefly, Pushing Daisies, The Simpsons, BSG (remake), West Wing; (Whedon, Fuller, Sorkin)

Master of None may be the most brilliant show on TV (well, Netflix) right now.

Music: I'll listen to just about anything, but Social Distortion, Weezer, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Jamiroquai, and Me First & The Gimme Gimmes are some that I can listen to at just about any time.

Food: Spicy tuna rolls, NY strip steak. I like to try new things, though I did not try (nor did I come across, actually) the rancid shark meat on my trip to Iceland. I love cooking/grilling, and my new kitchen (and back yard + grill) have made this a lot easier.

I generally lean towards geeky/nerdy stuff, but have a pretty wide range of interests.
Six things I could never do without
In no particular order: My Friends, My Family, Books, Pie, stuff, things.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My pup. Pie. National politics. Han Dynasty's DanDan Noodles.
On a typical Friday night I am
Interrogating my dog as to the identity of the mysterious Good Boy. (Spoilers: it's him)

Reading or out at a friend's place or restaurant.
You should message me if
You did not vote for Trump. Almost definite deal-breaker. ( I realize civic responsibility doesn't end with your vote, but chances are you either weren't paying attention (which is bad) or didn't find his racism/sexism/islamaphobia to be a deal-breaker in a president (which is worse)).

You have an appreciation for the absurd. You like what you've read and want to know more about me.
