I don't care what pronouns you call me, just plz don't call me "dude," "man," "bro," etc.
Some pretty basic and consistent goals are to swim, read, practice music, and ride my bike more. I don't have or want a full time job so I'm always looking for ways to hustle.
I'm really bad at time management and I often struggle to stay focused and motivated, but I'm working on it. I also have trouble letting go of clutter and I wish I were a better liar.
R.I.P. - zinelibrary.info
I don't read as much as I would like and I have way more books than I will probably ever get around to reading, the bulk of which consist of existentialism, sci-fi, apocalyptic/dystopian fiction and anarchist literature of all kinds in addition to a shitton of zines. Some of my favorite fiction writers include Margaret Atwood, James Baldwin, Aimee Bender, Ray Bradbury, Phillip K. Dick, Ursula LeGuin, Phillip Pullman, and Randall Kenan. I don't generally have the attention span for non-fiction unless it is in short (zine/article/essay) format. As far as zines go, Strangers in a Tangled Wilderness publishes some really great stuff (The Road to Either Or seriously changed my life) and I gotta admit I really like what CrimeThinc. has been putting out the past few years. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison are a couple of my favorite novels. Also, Calvin & Hobbes.
I don't care that much about movies. Documentaries, mindless comedies, and tasteful and/or campy horror will do. If I had to pick a favorite movie it would be a tie between Alien and 101 Dalmations.
I watch a lot of TV during the colder months. X-Files, Dark Shadows, Call the Midwife, Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Futurama, Star Trek: TNG, Bob's Burgers, The Golden Girls, Twin Peaks, Adventure Time, etc. etc.
Music is so important to me! I'll listen to whatever's on the radio, but I prefer post-punk, RnB, jazz, funk, pop punk, darkwave, crust punk, hardcore, black metal, hip hop, noise, and Appalachian folk tunes. I can't resist digging through heaps of cheap used records. Some of my favorite local bands and artists include Sapphic, Forever Grey, Dakhma, Dropped Calls, Pillars of Ash, Bermudas, Cemetery Circus, Dante Cope, and Willie the Kid. A few general artists I enjoy/am inspired by include Ceremony, Nicki Minaj, Lily May Ledford, Joy Division, Chelsea Wolfe, Pharmakon, Zola Jesus, Kaki King, Coil, Om, and Sun Ra.
I'll pretty much eat anything if I'm hungry enough, but some of my favorite foods are sweet potatoes, eggs, yogurt, dates, garlic, wild ramps, black beans, coconut cream, pumpkin, venison, smoked salmon, spinach, baby kale, asparagus, avocados, brussels sprouts, sauerkraut, bananas, peaches, blueberries, snap peas, lentils, alfalfa sprouts, pickled beets, chickpeas, mushrooms, licorice tea, curries, sandwiches, breakfast foods, burritos, tofu, noodles, and ice cream. Oh, and PIZZAAAAAA!!! I love to cook (especially for friends), garden, ferment, and dumpster dive (though most often just for shitty pizza).
I like to play tabletop games as well. I really enjoy word games like Scrabble and Bananagrams. Euchre is fun. I just got Boss Monster and that's pretty great. I generally don't like strategy games but one of my favorite board games is a pretty involved Greek mythology themed strategy game called Cyclades... Definitely hmu if you have this game!! I kind of hate Catan but i guess i will play it if you really want to :p.
I also live across the street from a basketball court and pretty close to a graveyard that's great for hide and seek and capture the flag.
As far as video games go I tend to stick to stuff that is at least a few generations behind for budgetary reasons. I also don't play much during the warmer months because I would rather be outside. Some of my favorite games include BaseWars, Faxanadu, and Kabuki Quantum Fighter for NES; Super Metroid, Pocky and Rocky and Evo for SNES; Donkey Kong, Link's Awakening and Avenging Spirit on Gameboy; Ocarina of Time and Yoshi's Story for N64; Silent Hill and Symphony of the Night for PSX; and Morrowind, Beyond Good and Evil, jDOOM, Thief: The Dark Project, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Portal, and MineCraft for PC.
"What should I eat?"; "Where did I put my damn [thing]?"; "I should really be [doing a thing] right now.... oh, well. I'll just [do this other thing] a little longer....".
I try not to get caught up in how hopelessly fucked up everything is and focus on what I can do to improve my life and the lives of those around me. Sometimes I fail miserably at this.
