My self-summary
I once slept in the lobby of a police station in Glasgow, but I was not incarcerated- all the hostels were full due to the unfortunate timing of a rugby tournament, and those Scottish are so hospitable!

I used to be a personal assistant for a famous comedienne in NYC, and I obtained some interesting SNL gossip along the way.

My sister once won a guinness-chugging competetion against an Irishman. In Ireland. On St Patrick's day. I was so proud!

I am very extroverted, empathetic and have a good sense of humor- and I love meeting new people. I used to be an actress in NYC years ago, and then decided to change my career. I studied philosophy for my undergrad, and am now in grad school for midwifery, so I care for women in labor and deliver their babies! It's pretty much the best thing ever, and I am passionate about women's health. Although it is often exhausting, I love what I do. And don't be jealous if I've had my hands in more vaginas than most!

I like crosswords, laughing, reading good books, talking about politics and health policy, adventures and trying new things. I really enjoy making good food and then sharing it with good friends.

I also practice chinese/japanese/persian mixed martial arts, and love a good MMA fight!
What I’m doing with my life
Nearly finished with graduate school, and about to become a certified nurse-midwife and women's health nurse practitioner. I keep an active tally of the number of babies I have delivered...

I also teach weekly reproductive health classes in the SF Women's Jail.
I’m really good at
Making soup, appreciating the small things, being hopeful, arguing a point, listening to a counter-argument, and laughing loudly... often at myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
Les yeux, the smile, or that I curse like a sailor when in pain or excited.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love Kurt Vonnegut, Palahniuk, Sedaris, and enjoy good recommendations... what's on your reading list?

As for film, I love old kung fu movies like The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (best movie ever!), Super Troopers, The Usual Suspects, Snatch, Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels, Run Lola Run, Donnie Darko, Reservoir Dogs, Paris Je T'aime.

I like watching Louis C.K., The Colbert Report, Friday Night Lights, Parks and Recreation, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones.

Music interests include Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Tennis, Band of Horses, The Beatles, Queen, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, Wilco, Heiroglyphics (my user name is a ref), Komeda, Modest Mouse (older stuff), Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Bright Eyes, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, motown, soul.

As for food, well, I like it.
Six things I could never do without
1) purpose
2) whiskey
3) purposefully drinking whiskey
4) my amazing friends and family
5) my computer recently crashed, so with that I will add... my computer!!! It was a terrifying 3 hours. must....back....up....often...!!
6) connections and adventures with other awesome people
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How our country could be actually considering limiting access to reproductive services in 2012... how is this even an issue now??

Honestly? That really awesome take-down I learned in kung fu class... can I practice it on you? Pretty please??
On a typical Friday night I am
Either doing something amazing, or doing something dull. No in-between.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I blush when I am excited or nervous... but even while I am blushing, I'm not at all shy about sharing things about myself. Just ask.
You should message me if
You think life is one big adventure and the players in it are what makes it wonderful!
