My self-summary
How to summarize a life? I'm an east coast transplant...though its been a long long time since I moved away. I will always have a bit of NY in my heart but my soul is now out West. I have worked many jobs through the years and have an eclectic education, having degrees in sociology, culinary arts and theater. I've worked as a chef, a waiter, a cheese buyer, editor and pot farmer to name a few.
But all of that is just the shiny exterior, the stuff that doesn't really matter. At heart I am a kind soul who loves to laugh and make others laugh with me, hopefully you have a sense of humor, this world is mad and if you're not laughing you're a fool. The most important parts of my life are the people in it, my friends and family, they are what drive me.
I can be irreverent, sarcastic and waver between quiet introspection and endless pontification.
I spend most of my free time working on film projects, either with other people's projects or with a group of friends and artists in Oakland. I devour books and movies, I have a special place in my soul for sci-fi, everything from classic stuff like Asimov, through cyberpunk and I'm now in love with Ian Tregillis.
What I’m doing with my life
I work in San Francisco at a job I love, I am a product manager at a Japanese company that produces anime and manga. Most of my other moments of the week are spent reading and writing, working on film projects and recording voice overs. I have been in a variety of local short films and voice over recordings thoughout the country.
I’m really good at
Cooking. worked in fine dining for a long while...worked everything from cook to waiter to manager. I will cook anything...love experimenting and I'm always on the lookout for hungry mouths to cook for.
And lots of other shit…I'm a jack of all trades…also pretty good at cursing…my NY comes out at all the best times
The first things people usually notice about me
My blue eyes....my laugh... And that I have a deeeeep voice
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a lot.....Bill Bryson, William Gibson, Michael Lewis, Chuck Palahniuk, Justin Cronin, Jared Diamond, Richard Kadrey, Michael Pollan, Paolo Bacigalupi and Neil Gaiman to name a few...
If I am watching tv it will be game of thrones (aren't we all?), Jessica jones, breaking bad, Fargo, the killing, better call Saul, daredevil
I watch alot of film, love Jim Jarmusch, Luc Besson, Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa,Terry Gilliam, Christopher Nolan..or just in general drop some gritty, noir laced in my face and i'm happy.
I am very open when it comes to food...I eat anything, I'll try anything and will absolutely, positively cook anything under the sun, except for balut, tried it once and never again.
Musically I am all over the place, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, Tribe and Jane's Addiction, Foster the People, Broken Bells, Sub Focus, Rouge Wave, Bach, but also love bluegrass and jazz, kinda depends on my mood....also love to dance so I love me some Pretty Lights, Chinese Man or Theophilus London…..loves me some of nasty old deep house and always got a special space in my heart for some Cure and Goldie.
The six things I could never do without
hikes into the remote wilderness
books
movies that don't feature shitty actors
Music that makes me listen
my pervasive sarcasm
good shoes...comfort and style apply
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The challenge of chasing your dreams...of taking risks in life that you're not sure will pay off and finding peace in those choices.
Why pizza in SF is more expensive then in Manhattan and how angry it makes it me when I get told its because of overhead.....sorry needed to get out my pizza rant.
Also whether or not trying to relearn how to play the trumpet is too much on my plate for the moment
On a typical Friday night I am
Finding a good indie movie to watch...going out to eat....drinking wine or whiskey…getting ready to go adventuring for the weekend
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hmmmm..I have tattoos...nah not too private....ahhh I used to work for Cafe Gratitude...yes it was weird...and a little cultish.
You should message me if
you want to live life joyfully and always chase your dreams
