My self-summary

So... how to describe myself and what I'm looking for... Hmm. Let me just ask a few questions (yeah, I know - as if there aren't enough quizzes on here already) - but your answers to these will let you know if we'd get along.

- Do you, like me, not really have any interest in going to a loud dance club and shouting at everyone while there?

- Can you accept the fact that I'm likely not going to tower over you in your heels? I don't care what shoes you wear. I'm just pretty sure I'm not going to get any taller.

- When the weather is nice, would you rather go biking, hiking, or just wander the city rather than sit and watch TV all day (In my mind that's reserved for crappy weather)?

- Do you like to go see a good movie with someone and then talk about it and analyze it with the person you saw it with?

- Do you like a good political argument or discussion or are you like my mom and just keep saying "one should never talk about religion or politics"?

- Do you stop paying attention after five questions? ;-)

I'm not looking to make a long treatise here. This is supposed to just be an introduction. Let me just say that you if you answered yes to all my questions (even the sixth) we have a good chance of at least having an interesting first date / meeting / introduction or the like.

I'm not perfect, I have my flaws - but I like to think that they're all minor. I have more friends than I have enemies... and that must mean that I'm doing something right.

I'm simply looking for someone to share some of my free time with and to enjoy all that this great city has to offer. If it leads to a long-term relationship - great. If not, at least I may have made a new friend.

Finally, I've been doing this online dating thing for a long time. I'm open to whatever method you might like to get to know someone new - whether that's a lot of e-mailing back-and-forth or just meeting for coffee somewhere right away. I'm flexible.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an IT Specialist for the Federal government (specifically, in this case - the Army). What does that mean? well...

The short translation is that I'm a guy who works with computers - I can program, build and fix them. I support a bunch of researchers with all their various computer needs.

In an earlier part of my life, I was a high school history teacher. That turned out to be something of a wrong turn. While I still enjoy history and will get sucked into various historical movies and TV shows still (The Tudors on Showtime for example). I learned that teaching high school history wasn't all that much fun and just wasn't for me. The current "teach to the test" mentality that rules our education system took all the joy out of it.

I think I may have found my "last" job. I'm going to stay here a while.
I’m really good at
Working with computers, explaining complicated things in laymen's terms, listening, being patient with people, not getting worked up over trivial things, and simply "being there" for someone. There are also various other things that you'll need to get to know me better to find out about.
The first things people usually notice about me
It used to be that I look young for my age but sadly that's happening less and less often these days. My students (back when I was a teacher) noticed that I strongly resemble the old host of the children's show Blue's Clues. I've also been told I look like Noah Wylie, Tobey McGuire and one of the guys on Murphy Brown (for those of you who remember TV in the 90s) - Miles Silverburg.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Contact, most any Tom Clancy novel, Arthur C. Clarke's novels.

Movies: Star Wars trilogy (the original... the new ones are painful to watch), Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jerry McGuire, Gladiator, Indiana Jones series, Star Trek series (including the new one), Rudy, For Love of the Game, new Batman movies, Spiderman series, and let's make Avatar be the most recent addition.

Music: Rush, Pink Floyd, Van Halen (the Sammy Hagar variety), Genesis, etc.

Foods: Steak, all forms of chicken, all forms of pasta, Mexican. I'll try Asian and Indian but I'm still figuring out what I like there.

TV Shows: West Wing, House, Battlestar Galactica, CSI (all of them), Californication, SportsNight, Sopranos, Dexter, Firefly, The Tudors, Rome, Spartacus, Game of Thrones, etc.

Computer Games (so hey I'm adding my own category. deal...): World of WarCraft, EVE Online, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, Call of Duty 4, Half Life I & II, Team Fortress, Dragon Age, etc.
Six things I could never do without
1. Friends 2. Family 3. Computers (My Macs, I could probably live without the PCs) 4. A fast Internet connection 5. Good movies & TV 6. Basic human needs (air, food, shelter... etc.)

Actually, I could do without annoying (pick six things) type questions :) Or, for that matter, being asked to list things.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My mind bounces back and forth from various things. I don't have ADD or anything. I just think about a lot of stuff.

Here's something to ponder... How come no one never sees any baby pigeons? Do they just "appear" fully grown one day?

That's kind of how my mind works... for better or worse.
On a typical Friday night I am
Well that depends on what's going on with my friends / co-workers. Sometimes I'll be with them out for dinner after work, sometimes I'll be catching a movie with them and other times I'll just be home alone. If I always had a really active Friday night - I wouldn't be on this site now would I? ;-)

Actually, let me use this spot to point out some other activities I might be doing (just not on a Friday night). I often go hiking with a group of friends and I also have a road bicycle that I try to get out on as often as I can.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Mostly because of my career change, I often feel like I'm about a decade behind everyone else. It annoys me at times - I'd like to have that decade back. But.. I can deal.
You should message me if
You want a kind, reliable, laid-back man who simply would like to develop a great relationship with a woman.

You want a man who is not a player and is not looking to play any games or deceive anyone.

You want a man who enjoys intimacy and believes that sex should be fun and playful rather than some form of power play or other unnecessarily complex thing (not a dom/sub fan or the like - some things are meant to be simple).

You want to chat some. I'm Excelsior_WV on Yahoo and ExcelsiorWV on AIM. Being a bit of a geek, I'm online a lot - so I'm not hard to find.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, I'm finding that the older I get the more I'd like to just meet early on for coffee / lunch / dinner. etc. Let's not waste time with long e-mail exchanges only to find out there's no chemistry.
