My self-summary
Australian, poet, feminist, PhD student, ethical non-monogamist, polyglot, sapiosexual, nerd, and all-round sarcastic bastard.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently entering the home-stretch (fingers crossed!) of a PhD in Comparative Literature. In other words I'm just about ready to be jobless and redundant in Trump-era academia.
I’m really good at
Analysing poems... But, you know, in a good way; not like you learned to do in high school where it just ruined the experience for you for life... Look, I think it's fun, ok!

Learning languages (working on my seventh now).

I'm not too shabby at cooking either; I just bought a Dutch oven and I'm already obsessed.

Oh, and inappropriate humour. Very, very inappropriate humour.
The first things people usually notice about me
My not-quite-Australian, not-quite-British, not-quite-German accent; the fact that I look a lot like Tim Curry. This upsets my mother a lot, and I don't know why.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
As someone who works with literature, I obviously hate reading. So in lieu of a list of my favorite books, here are some extracts of some poems I quite like--brownie points if you can tell me what they are:

"J'ai tendu des cordes de clocher à clocher; des guirlandes de fenêtre à fenêtre; des chaînes d'or d'étoile à étoile et je danse."

"But know your hair was bound and wound
About the stars and moon and sun."

"Quiero comer tu piel como una intacta almendra."

"Forse un mattino andando in un'aria di vetro,
arida, rivolgendomi, vedrò compirsi il miracolo:
il nulla alle mie spalle, il vuoto dietro
di me, con un terrore di ubriaco."

"Ein Zeichen sind wir, deutungslos
Schmerzlos sind wir und haben fast
Die Sprache in der Fremde verloren."

Music: I have very eclectic tastes. I listen to a lot of Classical (Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Chopin), Trance (Armin van Buuren), and Rock/Indie (Fleet Foxes).

Movies: Star Wars, The Wedding Crashers, Eight and a Half, Apocalypse Now, Stranger Than Fiction, Bright Star. This is a completely arbitrary list.

Shows: Archer, Community, Futurama, Game of Thrones, New Girl, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother.

Food: Most. I suppose Indian and Mexican rank amongst my favourites.
Six things I could never do without
A pen and paper... or anything with which I can write;
A an anthology of poetry;
Sex;
Stimulating conversation;
Single-malt Scotch;
A cat to keep me company.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How I'm ever supposed to start writing my dissertation when there's always more research to do first.

How we present ourselves; the roles we play.
"We are experiments; let us also want to be such."

Lately, and not entirely by choice, the disgusting political state of most of the world.

Why the poets have been so inexcusably silent on the subject of garlic.
On a typical Friday night I am
Apparently updating my OkCupid profile.

That or at a bar with friends. I used to say here that I go clubbing but... Providence has kinda ground that out of me. Where does one find decent music and space to dance in this city?!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Even at my age, I am usually too self-conscious to approach an attractive woman in person, even though I'm not at all shy.

If you figure out why, let me know. I've spent about 13 years trying.
You should message me if
You like what you see, and you can take a joke: I am both very approachable and very sarcastic.

You're intelligent, self-aware, a critical thinker, and you have a social conscience. I'm not kidding about being sapiosexual.

Also, you're not necessarily looking for something serious or exclusive, and you know the difference between respectful casual encounters and mindless hookups. Casual but not meaningless.
