A sense of adventure, international culture and open-mindedness are important to me. I don't watch much TV as I like to save my time and brain cells for activities I value more. (My theory: Life is short, why waste it passively watching other people do stuff on TV?) My interests include culture in general, museums (art and history especially), classical music, board games, dining out with friends, cinema, theatre, and walks/hikes. I enjoy movies, am a history buff and a trivia nut-- I adore pub quiz. If I sound very dry, I am a lot of fun when I am with people I "click" with. One of my passions is international travel – I crave the stimulation of being in a foreign culture.
The last book I read and really enjoyed:
"The File" by Timothy Garten Ash: describes his file kept by the Stasi during his PhD-research years in East Germany and his musings on his personal file. There are outright mistakes in his file and it is tragic to contemplate how one's future depended on such flimsy reporting. The author tracks down several of the people who informed on him and the varied reactions he encounters are illuminating. The explanations for informing on him are very revealing about human frailty, people's differing motivations and values.
Some of my favorite films include, in no particular order: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Chariots of Fire, Amadeus, Cinema Paradiso, L'Auberge Espagnol, North by Northwest, Rear Window, Some Like it Hot, Bridget Jones' Diary, Love Actually.
