My self-summary
Music snob, looking for similar.

I'm a dork, a goof, a weirdo, and a bit of a bastid (at least my sense of humor). I have a tendency to write too much in these things, but I'll save that for the unfortunate soul that dares message me. :-)
What I’m doing with my life
I guess you could call this transitional period. After years of planning and waiting, I'm moving to a new place and starting a new non-profit organization in south city. Tack this on to the other two jobs I already have, and you can probably guess I'm pretty busy. YTF would I bother to have a profile then? I'm an optimist.

I actually do force myself to make time to enjoy life, and one of my jobs has me going to concerts regularly and it'd be nice to have an excellent companion to fill in my +1's more often.

Most of my work is in music and media, where I find myself as a DJ (radio) and journalist (written and photo), but like most people "in the industry " (bleh), I also hold down a long standing job in food service, because you know, bills, donations, support for others and such. I'm also on a couple of softball teams.
I’m really good at
being awkward, but hey, you gotta be good at something. Somehow, I turn that awkwardness into an ability get along with just about everyone.

I'm fairly competent where I've applied myself. People seem to appreciate my ear for music and efforts to share. I've been told that I have a unique ability to describe jazz. I also tend to know a lot of music that others don't, even among my peers, but I guess not everyone would consider that a strength.

I also seem to be able to stick to a positive and idealistic outlook.
The first things people usually notice about me
Superficially, I imagine the beard, and in the winter my hat, but I'd hope that's not all.

I'm normally fairly shy in crowds and new situations, but certainly far from it when more comfortable. I rarely try to be the center of attention, but tend to do well when I am.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books- I like non-fiction mostly, philosophy and sociological pieces, but don't read as often as I should. A book I recently(ish) read was perhaps the best one I've found in a long time, "The Quantum and the Lotus," and I've slowly been rereading "Siddhartha," and loving all the things I never picked up years ago.

Movies- I don't really like blockbusters too much. I prefer movies that try to give you a new perspective, or at least make you reevaluate the one you already have. I can, however, usually enjoy a good comedy, thriller, or action movie. Some of my favorites are The Legend of 1900, Vanilla Sky, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Stranger Than Fiction. Also the type to know way too many quotes from movies, particularly comedies.

TV- Never been a dedicated TV watcher, but have watched a bit more in the days of the dvr. I watch too many cartoons, and have a freakish knowledge of Futurama. I keep up with a few of the shows on USA, but rarely like shows that require a real commitment to watch every week. I'm definitely not the type to pass up a social activity because one show or another is on (and honestly, it bothers me when others do).

Music- This could go on forever. A broad list would include jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, blues, jam, bluegrass/americana, reggae, and selected electronica, but there are so many stops on the musical spectrum worth listening to. Its probably fair enough to say that I really like most music that isn't manufactured by the industry, music as art, not as business, etc. Music is a big part in my life, and is slowly becoming part of my career and lifelong hobbies. I'd be glad to list some of my favorites upon any request, but there's no such thing as a short list when it comes to music.

Food- I'm fairly adventurous. I like foreign foods and trying new things. If i can, I'll try to order something I've never had on the menu before. There aren't many people that want to go out to the places I do, so I usually settle for more simple solutions, but it would be nice to find someone to explore the world of food with.
Six things I could never do without
Friends in my life
The freedom to explore/drive
A direction to take my life
A smile
Leaving the 6th slot open, so there's room when I find it :-)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
People and society, music, and the ways we can make things better for people we care about, and all others on this Earth.
On a typical Friday night I am
Stuck at work, unfortunately. However, I'd probably be at live music venue if I wasn't working, or just hanging out with friends at one person's home or another's. I'll probably do most things that people would invite me to, but that's how my night usually goes. Nights have been a little less active lately as more and more friends are having children/struggling financially in these rough times, or maybe we're just getting old.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Actually very open and almost brutally honest, but at the same time, I know when to keep my mouth shut, haha. If you care to know anything, dare to ask.
