My self-summary
I am independent, intellectually curious, and open-minded. Looking for a woman with a blend of similar but complementary qualities, who's willing to be my co-pilot. It doesn't have to last the rest of my life, but if it does, that's OK too. I am NOT looking for my twin. I take care of my mind and body. Truth and honesty balanced with sensitivity and compassion are my mantras. I appreciate emotional warmth and physical affection. I am pretty flexible and easy to get along with. I can be serious or playful, depending on whom I am with. My kids keep me young at heart. A wise man moves according to his circumstances. Although scientifically inclined, I also believe in luck and chance meetings.
What I’m doing with my life
Retired from full time college teaching in Boston in 2013. Still teaching part time and consulting, and volunteering as a surgical liaison at a hospital. Catching up on some reading. Thinking about new travel destinations. Learning to cook and eat healthier. One philosopher remarked the concept of efficiency of any process in life will remain undetermined until we know why and how we got here. Learning more about the fine arts. A bit of a news hound, I keep abreast of national politics and global events, which prove the law of unintended consequences somewhere almost every week.
I’m really good at
Vegetable gardening in summer and photography. Taking long walks on the beach, playing scrabble and tennis, and cycling in the summer. Love going to the movies and theater.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes and beard. I'm easy to talk with.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Fugitive (surprised?), A Few Good Men, The Pelican Brief, City Slickers II, Midnight in Paris, Irrational Man, The Verdict, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Forest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes, When Harry Met Sally, Doubt; British and American rock and folk from the 60's and 70's; Some country and classical pieces.
Many kinds of food, including seafood and Asian Fusion, so long as I know what's in them. Willing to be a line cook but not an executive chef for the right woman. Interested in the role of herbs and spices in maintaining good health. Books: "About Love," "A Fair Society," "The Celestine Prophecy," "Modern Romance," "The Upright Thinkers," and Merchants of Doubt." Enjoy going to the Hayden Planetarium, MFA, and Omni Theatre, Never been on a Duck Tour but would love to go.
The six things I could never do without
my children
music--pretty wide variety, depending on my mood
my friends
the movies and films
reading
a glimpse into the future
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Bringing out the best in my "significant other". Maybe you! I also think about the future of my children and how to stay connected to them; how lifestyles and culture have changed as a result of technological advances since the 60's. And What John Coffey said to Paul in "The Green Mile," just before he was executed. And what Lt. Gerard said to the RIchard Kimble in "The Fugitive" after he took his handcuffs off in the police car.
On a typical Friday night I am
No two Friday evenings are the same. Going out to eat or to the movies with a friend, or just reading/watching a movie at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have unloaded most of my baggage, but occasionally need someone to help me unpack a little more. I'll tell you more later.
You should message me if
If you think we have a thread in common, meet and see where it leads. Tip of the day: It's easier to close one door, when you know there is a another one to open.
