My self-summary
I'm a pretty laid back, mellow guy, but, can be passionate about certain things (Irish blood). I've been described as witty, funny, smart and, at times, complete a$$hole :)

Things I've done:

Lived in England for a year. Made great friends there, taught kids music, traveled Europe. Developed a deep love for pubs.

Listened to opera auditions in NYC a few times with my last job.

Played drums/percussion most of my life. Did the whole marching band/orchestra/musical theater circuit.

Taught myself guitar.

Former high school music director.

Former casting director for an opera company.

Currently the director of a school of music. It's pretty cool.
What I’m doing with my life
After 3 years of living in the Sacramento area, finally landed a job in a field that I actually care about. Getting a school of music off the ground, still getting to know the area (need to explore WAY more than I have).
I’m really good at
-staying calm in tense situations
-playing guitar for nobody
-making homemade tortilla chips (better and cheaper!)
-making friends with animals
-being on time (pet peeve is constantly late people...rude, man, rude)
-I have amazing parking karma....really, it's uncanny
The first things people usually notice about me
Shouldn't you be answering this?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
MUSIC: I'll listen to anything once. Music is a storytelling device and I'll listen to what folks have to say. That said, the recent things I've been into are:

Eels, Radiohead, Morphine, Peter Gabriel, Primus, William Elliott Whitmore, Asylum Street Spankers, Guy Forsyth, Gogol Bordello, Muse (it's like Queen and Radiohead had a baby!), Verdi, Feist, The Beatles, Mark Sandman, Vienna Teng, Alabama Shakes.

-I can dig on just about any kinda jazz. Be-bop being way up there, but, ya gotta love the legendary ladies like Billie and Ella.

MOVIES: Wes Anderson, Lars Von Trier (that dude really likes to torcher his female leads...makes me cringe but they are fantastic to watch), Dark Crystal, Restoration, Christopher Nolan, Johnny Depp is one hell of an actor, Lord of the Rings Trio, Stanley Kubrick, Once, Everything is Illuminated, Full Metal Jacket, anything with superheroes, swords and magic.

COMEDIANS: Mitch Hedberg, Doug Stanhope, Louis CK, Ricky Gervais, Tig Notaro, Sarah Silverman, Mike Birbiglia, Tim Minchin

FOOD/DRINK: Sushi, stinky cheese, Belgian and Microbrew beers. Starting to get a taste for bourbon...slowly. Very slowly.

RADIO: I listen to a few podcasts like The Moth, Radiolab, This American Life and whatever I may have missed on the radio. I go back over the old Ricky Gervais/Karl Pilkington shows when I need a good laugh. Timeless idiocy, that.

BOOKS/AUTHORS: Christopher Moore, Mil Millington, Chuck Palahniuk, James Morrow, JRR Tolkien, China Mieville, Neil Gaiman, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Tim Sandlin, Ben Elton, David Rakoff, David Sedaris, Lev Grossman, Neil Stephenson, The Mongoliad Series...

*I dig me some graphic novels from time to time, as well (Sage, Walking Dead, Y the Last Man, Preacher, Sandman)

TV SHOWS: Trailer Park Boys, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Last Week Tonight, Bob's Burgers, Preacher, The Magicians, Peaky Blinders, Marco Polo

Go Sharks and Go Packers!!!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-how unfathomably, bloody huge the universe is and how small we are in a relative sense.

-my family

-where's my beer?

-And there's always some sort of rhythm going on in my head, if not a piece of music. Rarely a dull moment up there in my noodle.
On a typical Friday night I am
Nothing typical about Friday nights.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I could not stand the Seinfeld TV show. Annoyed me to no end.

Never read or watched any Harry Potter. I'm not anti, just never got around to it.
You should message me if
-You want to meet a guy that will yell profanity at the Sharks games one night and extoll on the virtues of the minimalist composers of the 20th century the next, then passionately defend his socialist/atheist views the night after that...

-You like a good pub

-You are liberal-minded, patient, non-religious, like a good beer and know a good wine

-Are kind and compassionate, but, fight for what you believe in
