It's actually working pretty swell.
Theater: Improvisational comedy mostly these days. I have shows normally at least once a week. Totally friggin amazing fun, such a great group of people to spend my time with. If you're not exposed to this scene in STL, I'm telling you you're missing out.
Ideas: I try and read as much as I can as often as I can. Chatting ideas is my fav's.
I'm trying to read more fiction, I need more good suggestions . . . . . . . . . . ! ! !
Movies: Wish I had time to see more. I mean, who has time to see movies alone!? I'd rather make connections with people than go see Gravity in the dark for 3 hours alone. That said, I totes wanna see Gravity, and Her, and Nebraska, and all the rest of them good flicks that just came out, Inside Llewellyn Davis, etc.
I watch a ton of documentaries on Netflix, it's tremendous for that. SEE "THE ACT OF KILLING", IT'LL BLOW YOUR BRAINS AWAY
TV: Louie. Archer. Arrested Development. Breaking Bad (RIP). Mad Men. I actually don't "have" television, employing Netflix instead.
Music: My favorite form of art. I peruse pitchfork and stereogum
and pick up new names from friends. Lately: The Wild Beasts, Matthew Dear, Kendrick Lamar, getting into Jazz of all things (via Keith Jarrett piano), Everything Everything, Bon Iver, Flying Lotus, Grimes. Doing my best not to fall behind on the conversation, y'know??
Food: I don't live to eat, I eat to live. As far as my artistic tastes go, this is my least cultivated, but I'm workin on it, I promise! I wanna try more Indian food, more ethnic food. Suggestions!?
--Performing; I love, love it, being onstage
--Books; like a fish dies that doesn't swim, I need new ideas
--The idea that I'm progressing in some way
--The hope that I'll achieve my dreams of autonomy and jump out of this one-horse town
"Money, bitches and weeeeed" --T.S. Eliot
But really -- there's nothing I love more than good conversation. Delightful dialogue. People engaged with good ideas, trying to build up more than they tear down. Ya dig??
I tend to do a lot of meta-level thinking, for good or ill. Note: if you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, well, just, like, don't worry about it, man.
Wouldn't it be nice if we paid professors really well to promulgate kickass ideas rather than paying them nothing to circlejerk in the ivory tower whilst sociopathic big-swinging-dicks wreak terrible havoc upon our culture, financially, socially, spiritually, et. al?
Man, I wanna go to school forever. Learning's the tits.
Note: It's the conversation we have that'll make me fall hard more than anything.
You're a brilliant conversationalist.
You never want to be bored.
You have common sense. You strive.
You worry that you're overeducated
You're far from average, normal
You're freakishly gorgeous (duh)
You're too smart for your own good.
