My self-summary
I'm a vaguely comedic, sometimes sagacious screwball with an attitude. I'm equally at home at a formal dinner party in a nice suit, or in blue jeans and a T-shirt knocking back a beer with friends.

I've edited websites for a living, and now I'm an adjunct professor and freelance writer. I was a martial artist, and had a few nasty injuries to my shoulder and right hand, and now that I'm better, I'm trying to get back into it. I've mostly studied Wing Chun, Longfist, some weapons, and a bit of Judo and Boxing, and no matter what you study, I think it's awesome that you study! I'm also a wannabe novelist taking on his first big project. I live an eclectic, busy, and entertaining life.

I am a total geek, and it needs saying, and I do enjoy many hobbies such as: D&D/Pathfinder, video games, LARPing, anime, and related conventions. This can be either a major part of hanging out with me, or a non-existent part, up to your feelings on the matter.

I have a problem though: I'm not dating anyone these days. It's boring. Time to go out and have adventures in online dating again.
What I’m doing with my life
Working, dreaming, and fighting for justice in my classroom. I'm working on my cooking skills, and living in a new apartment in Ardmore with my awesome roommate. I'm doing a lot, now that I think about it.

It's not a proper week if I'm not the cause of shenanigans.
I’m really good at
1: Teaching. I'm most often assigned composition courses.

2: Reading at graduate speed (a strange, hybrid pace,) and writing fiction.

3: Listening. You'd be surprised at how few people actually listen to each other nowadays.

4: I can cook like nobody's business. Got any good recipes I can try?

5: Incredibly geeky things. Full stop.
The first things people usually notice about me
"His voice sounds like a southern drawl mixed with a northern lilt."

I've got a father from Philly, a mother from Louisiana, and I defeated a stuttering problem when I was a squirt. The combination has made my voice fairly distinctive. It's kind of cool, actually. People say I'd be great as a voice actor.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
You can skip this whole section so long as you know two things: 1. I support the John Waters rule on books, and you should too. 2.

Also: I love so many movies, books, and TV shows that it wouldn't fit on this section without taking up two pages, so this is just my attempt at a short short-list.

Favorite Books: The Dark Tower series (By Stephen King). The Discworld Series (By Terry Pratchett). The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (By Junot Diaz). Gone Away World (By Nick Harkaway). A Farewell to Arms (Hemmingway). Player Piano (by Kurt Vonnegut). Dune (Frank Herbert)

Favorite Movies: Hot Fuzz. Diggstown. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The Avengers. Michael Clayton. The Evil Dead Trilogy. Star Wars Original Trilogy. A Roman Holiday. Arsenic and Old Lace. The Princess Bride. Silver Linings Playbook. His Girl Friday. The Life Aquatic.

Favorite Shows: Chuck. Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Arrow. Castle. Life. Gurren Lagann. Attack on Titan. Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple. Revenge. Parks & Recreation. Breaking Bad. Doctor Who. Firefly. Psych. True Detective.

Music: ACDC, Iron Maiden, Warren Zevon, The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, I Fight Dragons, The Protomen, The Megas. No More Kings, Cake.

Video Games (This deserves a category): X-Com Enemy Unknown, Live-A-Live, FTL, Mega Man 2, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Etrian Odyssey III.

Food: It is easier to list exceptions to the food I like. I haven't had much in the way of Indian cuisine that suits me, and I have a significant number of impolite phrases regarding the iniquity of cooked spinach.
Six things I could never do without
My laptop has every story I’ve ever written. My books are precious to me, as is my kindle. (It’s a portable library!) My casserole dish can create wonders, and my flipping sweet brain makes everything happen.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I find myself thinking of Gender politics, martial arts, and the weird place that society has put us in.

I read wonderful stories on this website. How many more will I hear in person? And how many will I never meet the writer of? How many infinite possibilities exist with every message, until such time as the words are deleted and the profile is erased? And why does this site make me feel poetic about that which is not to be?

And what will do when I finish my novel?

Sidenote: finding typos on my profile, as a composition instructor, makes me want to commit sepukku with a keyboard.
On a typical Friday night I am
With my current work schedule, usually I just want to hang out and be lazy. But occasionally: party time!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm the section editor for Tabletop Games at - a feminist publication covering incredibly geeky things. Find me under "KungFuDave".
You should message me if
You're in the mood to hang out, and think I might be interesting.

I'm pretty geeky, so it would be great to date a fellow geek.

I take my training seriously, and it would be fun to date a fellow martial artist.

Also: if you're assertive and confident, stop on by! It's attractive as hell.
