My self-summary
I was born, raised and currently reside in Abbotsford, BC. My parents and extended family are from just across the border in the Bellingham area.

My family owns a paddle sport business in Abbotsford. If you like paddling, there not many people better to know than me. I have paddled much of BC, and a couple thousand kilometers of river in the Northwest territories, including the Nahanni and Thelon rivers.

At 18 I joined the US Army. I signed up for two years, mechanized Infantry, Hooah! 9/11 happened just before my contract ran out, so I re-enlisted and went to Iraq for a year. Good times! I was also deployed to New Orleans after the hurricanes, picking up bodies and chasing looters. Lots of animal rescue stuff too. Good times again! All told, I was in for six years. Now I'm out. If you put a couple beers in me an ask a few questions, I can be hard to shut up.

I have a degree in psychology from UFV. I wrote in the school paper, was involved in student govt and worked at the campus pub, all that jazz. I'm still volunteering at the radio campus/community radio station.

I've been known to play video games. I've loved them since I played the original Zelda, Warcraft, and Duke Nukem. Currently I am into Overwatch. So many games, so little time.

I am an atheist. I don't typically raise the issue, but if it comes up in conversation I will not be shy about it. I am prepared to politely defend my position.

I have a pretty big jeep, and I love camping. LOVE IT. And I'm not talking about your RV Park, or your logging road just off the highway. I'm talking about going so deep into the woods you had best be careful, because it might take several hours to get to a hospital. (I've still got my tricked out aid kit from Iraq, one of my more prized possessions for practical and sentimental reasons) I know a ton of great places in the Fraser Valley and beyond, I just need someone to go with!

I have two adorable kids and a beautiful ex-wife. I'm not looking for a new mom for my kids, just some new people to discover. I'm really impressed with this website, the people that get the higher match ratings seem like people I would like to get to know.
What I’m doing with my life
I am collecting stories. When I am too old and grey to do anything but tell stories, I want to at least have stories that people want to hear. That is my ultimate long term plan.

I'm also trying to gain as much wisdom and insight into the workings of the universe as possible.

I would like to one day build a straw bale house. Google it, it's amazing. Ideally it would be self sufficient, with a garden and solar/wind/geothermal energy, ready for the zombie apocalypse!
I’m really good at
Paddling, especially canoes
Sharing stories
Video Games!
Tolerating discomfort
Discussing religion, politics, the nature of reality
Driving, especially off-road
Shooting, either in real life or video games
Listing things I am good at
Comforting upset people
Upsetting comfortable people
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I can appreciate almost anything that isn't mass produced for consumption by stupid people.

TV/Movies: Arrested development, Phineas & Ferb, BBC/Al jazeera world news, SNL, Idiocracy, Half Baked, Being John Malkovich, Star Trek, especially TNG

Books & magazines: The Selfish Gene, Diary of Anne Frank, PC Gamer, Skeptical Inquirer, and mostly non fiction books on stuff I like, astronomy, sustainable living, or philosophy etc.

Music: Most anything, it just has to fit the moment. CBC radio 2 is amazing.

Food: I try to eat healthy, but you gotta have fun too.
Six things I could never do without
1. Curiosity
2. Skepticism
3. Friends and family
4. Stimulation
5. Sour Candy
6. Camping
7. Pushing the limits, for example by listing more things than I was prompted to.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Life, death, camping, cosmology, video games, sex, travelling, people I have lost contact with, history, the news, the future, language, animals, science, and so much more.
You should message me if
If you want to!

Why wouldn't you? Because of some old fashioned notion that it's a guy's job to say hello first? If you are assertive enough to send the first message, that's attractive. Or, if you are super shy and could not normally bring yourself to do such a thing, but can summon the courage to do it just one time . . . I'm also impressed!

I will make a sincere effort to reply to everything, and I'm very non-judgmental. So don't be shy :)
