To stand in front of 70 musicians and singers and lead them all through 3 hours of opera, you must know what you want and know how to get it. Same with leading software development. I'm demanding, opinionated, and stubborn, with just a touch of selfishness thrown in, when needed.
And ... I'm a big teddy bear. Funny, good-natured, fiercely loyal and protective of my people; musicians have told me I'm more fun than anyone else they've worked with. My friend Amy calls me the "biggest music geek" she's ever met. I'm not sure if by biggest she was referring to my knowledge of music or my height.
I love socializing with my friends, and meeting new people. I'm rarely at a loss for words, and I love to listen and learn.
I'm educated and well traveled on 6 continents (only Antarctica left to conquer); I was once interviewed on national TV in France (ask me why). I'm passionate about art, music, food, languages, history, psychology, film, theatre, travel, people, new experiences ... and passion.
I inherited my father's generosity and my mother's love of all animals. I grew up boating on the Chesapeake Bay. I once had a small speaking role in a major Bollywood film. I've toured North Korea. I make a decent Poulet au Vin Jaune avec Morilles. Once I drove across America alone in just over three days (the secret is Mountain Dew).
I have an antique Steinway grand piano that was played by the composer Sir Arthur Sullivan while he was working on The Pirates of Penzance -- a fun fact which I only accidentally discovered years after acquiring the piano.
Let's talk about *you* now ;-)
You are a lover -- in all senses of the word. You love life, you love yourself, you love sex, you love love. You're strong. You're weak. You're looking for one great man with whom to share your everything, no holding back.
You're adventurous. The idea of visiting new lands, eating new foods, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures stirs something within you. You'll try most anything, once.
You're radiant. You have a feminine energy that you express in everything you do.
You are a giver. You've learned that the greatest joys in life come from giving and that givers get given back the most.
Or as the poet Rumi put it:
"A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
As an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight."
I swear that, one day, I'm going to become the first new 50+ rock star.
Two of my best friends once asked me to officiate at their wedding, dressed in my conductor's white tie and tails. I was honored and humbled and had a great time, since their wedding had a Gilbert & Sullivan theme.
- Programming computers. I've written software that determines the amount of clogging of your coronary arteries and the amount of arsenic in your aspirin. So yes, software *can* kill.
- Traveling. I pack light and can be ready to do almost anything in 15 minutes. I frequently stumble into interesting events or unknown cool places without knowing how I've done it. I recently toured caves in Southern France with prehistoric art.
- Meditation. Can one be "good" at meditation? I don't know, but it has been a positive practice for me.
I'm often told I dress well.
I joke a lot, and make bad puns. There is nothing my mind won't make fun of. This gets me into trouble sometimes.
I'm often told I smell good.
In Films, too many. Casablanca, Annie Hall, and The Madwoman of Chaillot.
In Books, also too many. I read several dozen each year. John Gardner's Grendel is a favorite. Beowulf too.
As for shows in the theater, you've probably never seen my favorite shows, but here is a sample: Les Bavards, La Perichole, La Belle Helene, La Vie Parisienne, The Rose of Persia, The Gondoliers, Chabrier's L'Etoile, many others.
All of my pictures were taken several years in the future. In reality I am far younger.
"My two favorite things are commitment, and changing myself."
I am searching for a woman who is strong enough to sometimes be hurt by someone who loves her madly, passionately.
Kidding aside, the data wonks at OKC claim that those intrepid women who boldly make the first move end up with more attractive men. Yeah, it's science!
[BTW: I won't see your "Like" so send me a message. It's Ok to just say "Hi!"]
