My self-summary
Spent a number of years living / working / travelling overseas after quitting government service. Happy to be done with the pub/club scene but equally happy to go out and do other stuff in the right company. Theatre, cinema, sports events, meals etc.

No baggage other than two Maine Coon cats.

Veggie but easy about the preferences of others.

What I’m doing with my life
Interest in sport is confined to spectating these days. I have a heavy limp, using a cane outdoors, so will not be doing the Pennine or Cleveland Way walks again any time soon. However, although having been an active sportsman while younger, I'm perfectly comfortable with the idea of slowing down a little now I've reached the big five-oh.

Go to various exhibitions that catch my eye locally. All sorts, really. My interests vary wildly.

Middlesbrough F.C season ticket holder. Good excuse for a weekend away, especially when we're down in London. You wouldn't have to watch the football if you didn't want to - I'd suffer for the pair of us.
I’m really good at
My life skills are good, I suppose.

Engaging strangers.
The first things people usually notice about me
These days, probably the fact that I limp.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
TV: Into the Scandanavian stuff that's been on tv of late: Arne Dahl, The Bridge, Borgen, Forbrydelsen, Wallander along with Newsnight, Horizon, soaps, Panorama, docs and sports stuff. Oh, and Engrenages (Spiral) is also sensational. Ha! Makes it sound as though the telly's never off but nothing could be further from the truth. Doesn't go on till 1900, for starters, and, secondly, I'm not particularly bothered about missing anything.

Favourite film genres: Indie, psychological thrillers, sci-fi, comedy and horror though I've been known to get dragged along to a Hilary Duff movie once. Just the once, mind. Also like arthouse when in the mood.

Music: I'll listen to anything but would rather have 5Live on all day, to be honest. If pushed, prog rock, Rush etc. Also quite keen on the sound of silence at times.

Theatre: I like mucho - barring musicals. Not overly keen on a storyline being interrupted mid-flow by the lead suddenly bursting into song. I've never really *got* this.

Books: Internet - or maybe middle-age! - has played havoc with my attention span to the extent I read nowhere near as much as I once did. A few of the many writers I used to enjoy were Tom Sharpe (early work), Carl Hiaasen and some of those Russian comedy dudes such as Dostoevsky and Solzhenitsyn.

Food: Mostly anything providing there's no meat, fish or eggs involved.
Six things I could never do without
The cat
Debit / credit cards
A sense of humour
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Just lately, how 7 billion human beings manage to scrape a living off the back of our planet's thin crust. Only thing I'd do differently if I had my time again would be to have spent less time in the pub and more as an eco-warrior.
On a typical Friday night I am
Preparing for the weekend. Feet up for a bit of tv.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My first love as a kid was Cilla Black back in her 'pop star' days. The serious stuff, I wouldn't dare mention on here! Sorry.
You should message me if
You feel like a date / day out.
