My self-summary
I'm not the traditional macho male. Although I have tried things like rock climbing, snorkeling with sharks, etc. I prefer a more relaxed lifestyle. My favorite activity is to hike to the top of a mountain, taking the time to photograph along the way.

If you are looking for someone who won't add drama to your life, that's good, so am I! The people I surround myself with tend to be happy with their lives. Angry people, and those who feel the world is out to get them, turn me off. We can all control our destiny if we work at it... (obviously, not everything, though)

Happiness is in what you do, not in what you desire.
What I’m doing with my life
I manage an office in Orcutt during the winter months. In the summer, I usually go to the Sierras to help my family at their resorts. They're getting close to retiring, so I moved back to California last summer. I intend to spend winter on the central coast and summer in the Sierras for the rest of my life. It's the best of both worlds! This year, I only spent July and August in the Sierras, next year might be June through September.

I have a bucket list that includes learning to fly (a plane), swim with the fish (scuba dive), and have a conversation with my distant cousins in Peru (learn Spanish). But, most of my free time is spent hiking or biking.
I’m really good at
Explaining things
Pleasing everyone all the time (mostly)
Reading maps
The first things people usually notice about me
I have a gentle, understanding personality that usually leads people to confide in me. I have learned to laugh at life and enjoy myself even when people are trying to break me down. Initially I sometimes come across as conservative, but it's more about being cautious until I get a feel for the other person's personality.

I've been mostly listening to Country lately, but I'll listen to just about anything. I grew up on Oldies and Classical, went through a techno then hip-hop stage, and still listen to pop off and on. I prefer something I can sing to.
Six things I could never do without
Forests, Mountains, Sunshine, Shelter, Food and Water
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A little of everything. Sometimes I avoid the news just to have less stimulation for my brain. When I have downtime from work, I tend to invent useless things, but I write them down anyway. I just like to fix things, whether it is systems at work or the kitchen cabinets. But, people I let be themselves.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm about to be teaching a night class on Friday nights. Otherwise: having a beer with a friend, game night with my friends, or a nice dinner with a nice lady...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I can stare down a bear, chase off a hunter, swim with a shark, but first dates and public speaking make me nervous. (Strangely, I enjoy job interviews!)
You should message me if
You are looking for intelligent conversation, with a person who loves the outdoors, will never again live in a big city, enjoys traveling, and is not afraid to try something new (but sometimes needs persuasion).
