My self-summary
2014 – another year beckons – along with the continued search for a compatible companion to travel with along life’s highway.
Here’s to a successful year!!!!

“Compatible” is a very important word.
And it’s very tricky thing to define – but I think it starts with common interests and daily activities.
So, here’s a bit about me and if it resonates and interests, please contact me.

My passion is exploring what it means to be alive, to answer the important questions: Who am I? What/where is ‘here’? What’s it all about Alfie?
I am fascinated by what it means to be human, by the experience of being in this body. I read widely about spirituality, philosophy, psychology, physical health, diet, biographies, real life stories.
Awareness meditation brings me insights into my body and mind and the energies of this reality.
I do not have any ‘causes’ – I am not out to change/save the world nor am I ‘looking to make a difference’. I do not seek to change the reality I find myself in - – I seek to understand and accept ‘what is’.
While I am active in this world, I am generally more an observer than intense participant, more interested in my own experience/response to what is going on rather than becoming overly involved in the drama of life. Other people’s responses interest me as well.
My passion is learning and I have an eclectic list of skills and interests – and my approach to all is this fascination to know how it works, what’s going on – not for any particular goal – just to know – the goal is simply to acquire the knowledge or skill, to understand. That’s my fun. That is my raison d’etre.
The unexamined life is not worth living. This life is a great ride and I try to do it consciously and awake.

So, moving into the less serious, everyday face of life…
I’m educated, good communicator good listener, I like to tease, love to twist the English language and mangle concepts and double/triple entendres; sensual, have a good sense of humour and can make you laugh; writer, musician, entertainer, yet also like a lot of quiet time. Taught ESL in Japan, renaissance type jack of all trades – handyman type: carpentry, electrical, computers, mechanical, etc.. Not into sports and don’t watch a lot of TV – rather be growing food, building things, learning about stuff. I enjoy life – it’s a fun ride.
I like adventure movies, life stories - not into horror, sci-fi, apocalypse type shows. Enjoy Big Bang Theory, documentaries, Ice Pilots, Pickers, Gold Rush.
Eclectic music tastes but mostly easy listening: Cohen, Bim, Pink Martini, Clapton, Kate Smith, and way more – too many to list..
I like a lot of quiet and don’t like music/radio/tv on as background noise – I’m quite happy with my own thoughts.
Lately came across info on HSP – Highly Sensitive Persons- and it seems to fit for me.
I eat healthy, tend towards Paleo/gluten free diet but not fanatic about it. Fairly good cook, make my own sauerkraut, dehydrated foods and do my own laundry. Love dining out, ethnic foods. Enjoy oceans, nature, work out regularly, weights, sauna, Feldenkrais, love to walk, meditate, talk about life. I am retired, on a pension with limited income but more than enough to support myself.

My favourite weekend activity would be to go for a drive, for example go to Sooke, walk Wiffen Spit, lunch at ‘Mom’s Café’, wander around the Potholes, on the way home get a fresh crab and then cook dinner together in the evening.
I feel very fortunate to live on this island and for a nature lover there is no shortage of things to do and see here. I do like my profile name ‘Hotei22’ – if you search you might be surprised where you find it…

I have herpes HSV 1, HSV 2 (Please only respond if you too have herpes or intimate knowledge of herpes). Because of the herpes you’ll have to contact me if you’re interested.)

The woman I seek is intelligent, educated, aware, self aware, joi de vivre, sensual, enjoys touching and being touched, adventurous, confident, at peace with herself, has a similar passionate interest in how life works or a passion about something, and compatible...

Life is an interesting journey and man is a most fascinating species. I love exploring the vagaries and nooks and crannies of this existence; and it’s way more fun with someone of a similar ilk, interests, values and passions.
If this resonates with you, please contact me.

In Joy
What I’m doing with my life
Lately I've been reading Byron Katie and having fun with that.
I go to the gym across the street, read, walk Willows, take it easy a lot. Prone to doing more when I have someone to do stuff with.
Like exploring, gunk-holing on land, drive upisland, walk around inner harbour.
I’m really good at
I'm a sort of Renaissance jack of all trades type - my favorite quote is:
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
…Lazarus Long (Robert A Heinlien)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a big guy and carry a presence when I walk into a room - product of 30 years as an entertainer.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Well, I'm sitting here listening to 'Commander Cohen' while filling this out.
Like auto-biographies, travel stories, non-fiction, comedy,
Eclectic music tastes
Big Bang Theory (part geek myself), Ice road Truckers, Ice Pilots (grew up in Northern BC) Pickers and Pawn Stars (amazed at what people have/collect/value).
Don't watch a lot of TV, like a quiet house, don't like TV/music on for background noise/pseudo company - quite happy in the quiet and my own thoughts.
Don't like rap and not into horror movies or the other wierd zombie crap that seems to be the rage these days.
Six things I could never do without
Nothing - couldn't do without 'nothing'
'Everything' I could do without.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Not thinking.
I've spent most of my life thinking about who I am - now I figured it out, there's not much left to think about.
Maybe what to do with you Friday night - now that's worth thinking about...
I spend time a lot of time writing.
On a typical Friday night I am
I hope I don't have typical Friday nights - especially with a partner - let's keep it fresh and different.
I'm a pretty easy going guy and I like variety in life's activities.
Just FYI - One partner but different activities :-)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have herpes. Used to think that it wasn't overly important and that "Love conquers all" - but it doesn't. Some things are just reality and need to be dealt with.
You should message me if
Any of this resonates (duh)
And if you have herpes - while I don't think having herpes is the main criteria for a relationship - it's definitely important in developing one with me.
