My self-summary
I'm relatively new to NYC, having lived here for about a year. I'm beginning to get the hang of it.

I'm a laid back, creative kind of guy. I have things I'm highly passionate about and have been known to stay up all night if working on a cool project or talking with someone I'm into.

I've a total geek and a gamer, I'm into politics, and it's important to me to be good to others. Empathy is important and in short supply. Social justice is a big interest of mine.

Learning new stuff is kind of a compulsion for me. I need the challenge. This has turned me into a professional artist, web designer, computer programmer and one time even a teacher.

I love stories, thinking about — and building — the future, I'm an arm-chair esoteric philosophy tinkerer, fountain of random knowledge and an evangelist for curiosity as a way of life. So I've spent a lot of time developing me, and developing a strong sense of who I am. Now I find myself wanting to get to know someone else.

What I’m doing with my life
Once upon a time I spent a year and a half teaching reluctant art students at the same art school I graduated from. Art students are, by nature, reluctant about anything that requires an attendance policy. Then I worked for WWE. Yes, the wrestling company. So, uh, I've seen some things. These days I work for a digital creative agency in SoHo and feeling quite at home in its strangely drama-free office environment. Lightning does, in fact, strike.
I’m really good at
Computer stuff.
Not taking things too seriously.
Dropping pretense and speaking openly, honestly, and, if called for, bluntly.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm a big dude. I'm 6'5" tall, very broad-shouldered and on the heavy side but I'm working hard to fix that. After that, the beard, man. It speaks to people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I survive the NYC subway system with the help of audio books. Currently burning through the Dresden Files at an alarming rate. Other favorites include The Girl With All The Gifts, Snow Crash, Cat's Cradle, anything by William Gibson, Neil Gaiman, David Sedaris, or Neal Stephenson. Also a fan of comics and graphic novels like Saga, Deadly Class, Black Science, The Wicked and The Divine, Transmetropolitan and The Walking Dead.

TV in no particular order: Stranger Things, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Full Frontal with Sam Bee, House of Cards, The Americans, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Blacklist, Agents of Shield, Orphan Black and.. ugh, there's more, but I can't keep going. It's a golden age for TV. I've developed a back log of things I know I'll like but haven't had time for yet.

I watch less movies these days since there's so much amazing long-form serial TV available, but I still enjoy them.

I developed a thing for old samurai movies a few years back when I had a channel that played them on saturday mornings. I'm talking black and white, original-Japanese-language movies with subtitles and early-cinema production values.

Music: my tastes are broad and jump around a lot, but I tend to lean away from anything that sounds too much like generic pop, whatever that sounds like at the time. I like a good beat, but I'll take a chill melody too. On my iTunes you'll find 90s grunge, modern trance, dubstep, hip hop, nerdcore hip hop, 60s progressive rock, movie soundtracks, classical remixes, trap music, blues, jazz, choir, chill, the Russian national anthem and many MANY gigs of podcasts like This American Life, Radiolab and This Week in Blackness (you should try it). What I'm listening to at the moment depends on how I feel and whether I'm working on something.

Food: I'm on a diet right now, so nothing sugary or carby. I'm a big-time omnivore so when I'm cooking, I load up on low-calorie non-starchy veggies with some meat, and a bucket of seasoning and spices.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What the hell is going on and where the hell are we all going and how the hell we can fix all of it.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either relaxing and de-stressing at home or out at a cafe with my sketchbook.
You should message me if
You liked anything I wrote above, and…
- you have a sense of humor
- you like a creative man
- you like the kind of person who appreciates the path less traveled
- you can deal with someone who geeks out about big ideas
- you want a partner in shenanigans, resistance, or creative pursuits
- and you like the idea of having a big, warm, 6'5" tall teddy bear to cuddle with.
