My name is Steve, and I'm a pretty happy guy. I've had some amazing experiences in my life and look forward to many amazing ones in the future. Right now, the main thing missing from my life is an incredible person to share those experiences with!
I am a huge fan of storytelling. I'm an avid reader, though unfortunately less consistently than when I was younger (life always seems too busy now!). I really enjoy aural storytelling. I'm a bit of an NPR nerd, and This American Life and Snap Judgement are two of my favorite series. I'm a big fan of movies and TV shows that feature unique, interesting stories rather than cheap laughs or big explosions - though those things can be fun on occasion as well ;-).
Music is a constant companion in my life. Anytime I'm not listening to someone speak, I've probably got music playing. I enjoy a pretty diverse range of music. Though my collection is primarily focused on indie rock/pop, it varies from the quiet, contemplative stuff of Nick Drake, Iron & Wine, and Explosions in the Sky to some poppier stuff like Architecture in Helsinki, She & Him, or Belle & Sebastian to some punk like Face to Face, No Use for a Name, or MxPx. I've taught myself a little guitar, but haven't worked at it enough to play more than fractions of several songs. lol
I am a runner, and now that I live so close to great paths, I've gotten back into the best shape I've been since college, which I'm really excited about. I hope to work my way up to a marathon sometime next year though I still have a ways to go!
I am a gamer as well and love games that allow me to create something. I am currently playing a pen & paper RPG with some college buddies online because we now live spread all over the country. It's a great way to stay in touch, and I love the collaborative storytelling element of it. We've been playing the same campaign for over two years now and there is quite a history with the characters we've created. I'm also a big fan of building games like Minecraft. It's a fun and simple way to do a little bit of design, and it's amazing see the things other people create.
Finally, I love experiencing new things and new cultures. I love to travel. There is nothing like seeing the diversity of life throughout the world to open your eyes.
I am not necessarily looking for someone who shares ALL of my interests and passions, but someone who has passions of their own and can at least tolerate mine. :-P
I am really good at games. I love competition of all kinds - sports, board games, card games, video games, racing from the restaurant to the car, breath holding competitions, thumb wrestling, and especially staring competitions. :-) Some say "everything isn't a competition". I beg to differ, but I am also a good sport - gracious in defeat and humble in victory. I enjoy the competition, but the results aren't what's important to me.
I am a very good listener. I do really enjoy listening to what people have to say. I love figuring someone out, understanding what makes them tick, and where they're coming from. I think I am very good at understanding other people's perspective most of the time.
I also believe I have exceptional taste. I see beauty in many things, but the things I truly love are amazing. Friends and family trust my taste in music, movies, art, design, and writing. I recognize that not everyone likes the same things, and can generally find the portions of the things I like that I can share with a particular person, the things they will also like.
The other thing people typically remark about is how skinny I am.
The final thing people most often comment on is how quiet I am. When I first meet someone, particularly in a group setting, I am typically relatively quiet. Like I wrote above, I am a good listener and I like to observe. I don't speak just to say something. I wait until I actually do have something to say. I like to get to know someone new, and I find the best way to do that is to listen. Also, I hate to interrupt. I am much more open and talkative in one on one conversations.
