My self-summary
So I am trying to write a good and eye-catching profile, while listening to The Fall's Overture From Curious Orange.

Ahh Brix... What a talent. Amazing that she's now a fashion expert. A lost to music.

Anyway, what can I say about myself? A writer/editor by profession. Sometimes a hopeless romantic. Sometimes a bitter cynic. Painfully shy in crowds. Terribly talkative when with the right person or small group of people. Some people say I am neurotic. Some say I am arrogant. Some say I am arrogantly neurotic.

The Observer magazine sums me up, e.g. Self-satisfied, smug.

No really... I have my moods. You can't sum up someone in a few paragraphs. You just can't.

But maybe we can have a few drinks and I will tell you of how I wrote Elastic Man.
What I’m doing with my life
I smoke because I hope for an early death.

Aside from that, the usual mundanity of life... Work, work and work.

But so desperately wanting to break out of the rut. To ride out tonight and case the promised land.
I’m really good at
This is a tough one. It is not up to me to say what I am good at. It is for others to do so.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I have an accent.

Aside from that, I try not to let myself get noticed when I am out.

But sometimes they say, "Hey Marius, you're spoiling all the paintwork"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books? Way to many to count. No seriously... Way too many to count. But a brief sample... Poems by WH Auden, TS Eliot, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Dylan Thomas.

The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion (which I think is better than LOTR, honestly!), The Inspector Morse series, Everything by Oscar Wilde... No, not a book called Everything but everything he wrote, 1984... Good Lord.. how long should I go on for?

Also, love history books. I did study it in University! I highly recommend Simon Schama's Citizens. It's the best book ever written about The French Revolution.

Movies: Strangely, despite the fact that I get startled easily, I like horror movies. Oh and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. If you haven't watched it yet, do so! The Godfather, Star Wars (yes I am a geek/dork/nerd whatver), Once Upon a Time in America (Best mob movie ever).

TV: Doctor Who (actually I am more of a Dalek supporter), The Sopranos, Star Trek (TOS and TNG in particular), Inspector Morse, Spitting Image, Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.

Music - Again way too many to count. Let's see, my player contains a range of music from classical to punk. Just a few names... Beethoven (The Glorious Ninth!), Elgar, Mussorgsky, The Smiths, The Fall, Patti Smith (I have a Smith thing going on!), Morrissey, The Pogues, Billy Bragg, Kirsty Maccoll, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica (old style), Guns 'n Roses (old style too)... whew... Musicals too.. Well Hedwig of course and Les Miz...

So to sum it up... if you like music, let's talk!
Six things I could never do without
Sampoerna Menthols
A lighter for the Sampoerna Menthols
Information (I love information.. I am an information sponge!)
Iced black coffee (or in the vernacular - Kopi O Ais)
Good conversation
I spend a lot of time thinking about
If there is any hope for Malaysia or the world at large.

Whether I will ever start writing for pleasure again, and if I do, will anyone read it.
On a typical Friday night I am
The Last of the Famous International Playboys
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am really a Dalek
You should message me if
You enjoy good conversation with a bit or more of risque word play and some cynicism and maybe wit too.

Or you can relate to these words.

"Last time I saw you
We'd just split in two
You was looking at me
I was looking at you
You had a way so familiar
I could not recognise
Cause you had blood on your face
I had blood in my eyes
But I could swear by your expression
That the pain down in your soul
Was the same down in mine"

Or you have a TARDIS
The two of us
