My self-summary
Just moved back to the area from Alaska (hence the username, which I picked before knowing that a "bear" on a dating site is a chubby, hairy gay man). I am a slender hairless straight man, fyi.

I am a mix of low-brow (love: sports, bar sports, meat, fire, Miller High Life; hate: most art, expensive wine) and high-brow (love: math, science, game theory, economics, politics [FiveThirtyEight, not Politico]; hate: country music, NASCAR, 2.5 Men, and I'm willing to accept that good, intelligent people like The Big Bang Theory but you are on notice and you should watch Community instead and if you want something that covers the specific topic of BBT, you should watch Futurama).
What I’m doing with my life
I'm avoiding being a lawyer as well as I can; I've decided to pursue a career as an actuary, and if you think that's boring, you're probably right. But if you think that sounds interesting, you're also probably right and we will get along.
I’m really good at
Not spraining my ankle, rupturing my Achilles, lifting 50-pound sacks of chicken food, making everything into a math problem, resolving conflicts in ways that no one wants to ("why don't you just have an auction?" "ew, money? I don't want to bring money into it. I want to have all the things I want, but also I don't want to pay for them.").

Really though, my skill is taking really difficult concepts and explaining them in less-difficult ways.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Infinite Jest, The Truman Show, Breaking Bad, Radiohead, red meat.
Six things I could never do without
Let's establish the obvious rules here: we could all do without almost everything, and the things we truly couldn't do without are all pretty much the same. So this can't be interpreted literally. I know that's obvious but some people feel the need to be all spiritual and shit, and be like "oh there's nothing I couldn't do without" or "Diet Coke? You're so shallow!" Obviously this means "things that play a big role in your life, that you like."

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Usually I'm trying to whittle down the list of activities that are unambiguously good for the world. Also, politics, science, baseball statistics, Star Trek, religion.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately I've been treating myself to an actuary practice exam.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My fascination with wild edible plants probably comes from the fact that I'm worried that some day I'll be poor and homeless and have to live off the land to survive.
You should message me if
You know how to use an apostrophe and how to spell "definitely". (That's the snobbiest thing in the world I know; some people don't put effort into their typed online messages to strangers, but seriously it's a huge turn-off. I know this is probably more my problem than yours. But it is true.) Also if you truly love and appreciate science, by which I mean you have a scientific outlook on the world and are constantly curious about how/why things work. I do not mean that you follow Neil Degrasse Tyson on Twitter.
