I find humor in odd things. Let's discuss the "You might like" feature on this site. You know, the little set of three photos to the left, in the blue bar? It is doubtful that I will like someone with a less than 30% match. It just is. It's extremely doubtful that I will like someone with a 0% match, 7% friend match, and 99% enemy match. Unless of course I have been seeking my arch-enemy all of these years. So, exactly how does this feature decide I might like someone? Craziness ensues...
Having asked a couple of friends, they both replied...My glasses. Huh...
There is not enough room for the films I love, though I do gravitate to horror and independent. Let's discuss this for a moment. Most people equate "horror" with gore. Horror is a visceral reaction, based on suspense and fear. Extreme bloodshed isn't necessary. I'm not a big fan of the "torture porn" style (Saw, Hostel, Cabin Fever, etc.), but really love a good ghost story or monster movie. I also love anything that allows my brain to work. A short list of suggested viewing? Pi, Primer, The Station Agent, Wendigo, to name a few that are not, necessarily, horror, per se. I am a huge fan of Akira Kurosawa, without a doubt the most influential director. If you've never seen his work, I can guarantee you've seen something based on or directly influenced by it. I love Asian horror, by the way. And Euro-trash. And classic cinema. I love movies. For the record, I am a huge fan of Sam Peckinpah's highly controversial works. I know it's not for everyone, I know that most people are disturbed by it (that's kind of the point of it, too), and I'm not going to make you watch it with me. But I could really get into an open discussion of either The Wild Bunch or Straw Dogs. Also, don't come at me with the remake. I'm talking about the real one.
Don't watch a lot of tv, there are too many books and movies to ingest. That said, I really like The Big Bang Theory.
Music? Not a fan of hip-hop or rap, beyond that, pretty much good to go. For whatever reason, I tend to enjoy a womans voice on vocals. As composers go, I think Ennio Morricone and Akira Ifukube were geniuses. I am a Rush fan, but I try not to force them on anyone. Prog Rock is a favorite. Folk. Singer-songwriter. Dubstep makes me think of Michel Gondry videos.
I am, oddly, allergic to cilantro.
Yes, I realize that's seven, but I hate to remain within my limitations.
