My self-summary
Let's see here...

Twenty-something human male and second year med student, half-Arab who can't speak Arabic worth a damn (but fluent-ish in French, which comes in handy exactly never), plays guitar (formerly saxophone, piano), once-upon-a-time competitive fencer, unhealthy obsessio with science/medicine, climbing, video games, reading, cooking, and redditing.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a total goofball, and extremely outgoing. My sense of humor vacillates between bizarre and abstract, bitingly sarcastic and sometimes boyish to a degree that borders on caricature. I indulge my imagination whenever possible, and I have a penchant for embarking on curious projects that occasionally go unfinished (case in point: a tabletop forge that I am gradually constructing from a large soup can).

In essence, I might be your doctor someday, but I'll still be a kid at heart.

Oh. And my name is Sam. Hi. :D
What I’m doing with my life
Aside from constant, frantic studying, I also devote my life to exploring ways to be more like Tony Stark, testing the limits of human capsaicin tolerance, talking incessantly, periodically forgetting to breathe, daydreaming, rock climbing despite my acrophobia, moving heavy objects for fun, reluctantly doing cardio, and vigorously exercising the the Oxford comma. See what I did there?

I find the solutions to all the world's problems each morning, and forget them as soon as I step out of the shower.
I’m really good at
Fencing, listening, lifting heavy objects, making your taste buds do happy little backflips, making unusual cocktails, and convincing people that I'm a good guitarist when mostly I just like to find creative ways to exploit the minor pentatonic scale. Someday I'll be good at doctoring too!

Also, corny jokes. The kind your dad probably tells. I'll make your eyes roll so hard your retinas will detach.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told I have a very bright, happy smile that I'm not shy about using. So hopefully you're noticing that and not my unkempt facial hair. A fun benefit of being half-Arab is that I can grow a beard in about 20 minutes, and then I spend 2 weeks agonizing over whether or not to keep it, then I shave it all off and the vicious cycle begins anew.

I also have a very large voice that projects a long way, so it is likely that you'll hear me before you see me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Alright, strap in. I like a lot of stuff.

Books: I love me some fiction. I'm a big fan of the more renowned fantasy and sci-fi series, e.g. Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, Dune, and anything by Terry Pratchett (Rest in Peace, Sir Terry), Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, or William Gibson. When I can forget about what a bigoted wanker he is, I can get into a little Orson Scott Card. I also have about 50GB worth of comic books in PDF form stored on an external hard drive. Outside of fiction, I enjoy contemporary essayists, especially the works of David Foster Wallace, who won my heart last year after I read Consider the Lobster and Other Essays. I might move on to Infinite Jest, but I've heard that one is something of a labor of love.

Movies: I like psychological comedies like Office Space, The Science of Sleep, The Truman Show, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (okay maybe that one isn't a comedy so much). On top of that I love scifi and fantasy films, like The Matrix (mostly the first, but the sequels had some good effects at least), Star Wars, and DEFINITELY the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It goes without saying, Lord of the Rings (the extended editions, naturally). The Simon Pegg/Nick Frost fare (Cornetto Trilogy 4 lyfe). I also enjoy documentaries, both about nature and culture. I loved Exit Through the Gift Shop -- I'm still trying to figure out if Mr. Brainwash is an elaborate Borat-style prank being played on the art world by Banksy.

Shows: Firefly, House of Cards, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Archer, Arrested Development, and as of recently, Veronica Mars. If you couldn't tell, Netflix is my homie.

Music: I was a DJ for my university's radio station, so I'm possessed of a certain unquenchable thirst for new music. The list of "music I like" is long and ever-changing. Jazz and blues predating 1970, and then some modern contemporary jazz and fusion. Michael Bublé is my guilty, guilty pleasure. I LOVE blues rock, just... any blues rock, modern or classic. Black Keys, White Stripes, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Ward, you name it, I probably like it. Also I enjoy some electro, glitch, trip-hop and dubstep. Daft Punk, Justice, The Toxic Avenger, Zeds Dead, Massive Attack, Portishead, UNKLE, Glitch Mob and so on. As for hip-hop, Jay-Z, a bit of Kanye, Chiddy Bang, Childish Gambino, Watsky, Das Racist, various other indie hip-hop artists and a healthy measure of nerdcore rap (see: MC Frontalot). Above all, Tom Waits is my soulmate. He's the most irresistibly hard-to-place shade of weird, both in lyrical content and sound.

Food: I love to cook. My mom has taught me well in the art of middle eastern cuisine, and my dad, being a masterful griller, has shown me the right way around a steak. I love trying new things, and I'll attempt any recipe I find interesting, though usually not without some minor tweaks and alterations. I have a particular weakness for Ethiopian fare -- injera might be the world's most underrated utensil. I'm also a big fan of Filipino cuisine. Fair warning, I like spicy things, and I am being very serious when I say spicy. The secret ingredient in my hummus is half a dozen whole habaneros. Not de-veined or de-seeded. Whole. I'm sure my abiding love of capsaicin is doing irreparable damage to my digestive system, but until that catches up with me, it hurts so good. I also, for my own amusement, like to sometimes turn my kitchen into a kind of Frankenstein-esque laboratory wherein I cobble together willfully awful monstrosities for the purposes of horrifying the townsfolk. I should note that one of my favorite subreddits is /r/shittyfoodporn. I should maybe stay off there for a while...
Six things I could never do without
Eh, the obvious is air/food/water etc, so this is more like a list of things I would greatly prefer not to do without:

Video games, martinis, books, the internet, my friends, and a tremendous amount of coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
At the risk of sounding dowdy and unidimensional: science. Srsly. It takes up a significant majority of my idle brain cycles in one way or another. Personalized medicine, healthcare distribution, human enhancement technology, gene and tissue engineering, nothing's off limits up in my head. My inner universe probably looks not too unlike William Gibson's.

I'm no physicist, so if you can figure out how to make a miniaturized fusion reactor, I've got some ideas for power armor that you might find intriguing. Of course, if you've figured out miniaturized stable fusion, you're probably too busy swimming in a pool of cash and admiring your solid diamond statue of yourself to be on here.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I like to be low key, but most likely I'm getting my dance and/or drink on with my friends. Put some Jameson in me and witness my incredibly caucasian groove.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I keep jugs of iced coffee in the mini fridge next to my bed so as soon as I wake up in the morning, I can immediately chug some and become functional. It's actually kind of a problem.

Also I shower naked. Don't tell anyone.
You should message me if
I look like I'm carrying a lot of tension in my shoulders.

...Oh, MESSAGE. Um. If you enjoy video games and/or books, have a discerning taste for whiskey and/or beer, can appreciate a good joke and/or a bad pun, can talk turkey about the hard sciences (or at least be willing to listen to me rave from time to time), like -- no, LOVE! -- to cuddle, and can accept the fact that if you're possessed of a particular smallness, I might pick you up and carry you around.
