My self-summary
It took me at least a week to come up with a screen name. I mean there are a million options and each one of them will give you a snapshot into someone’s interpretation of who they are and why they have come here, right? I thought about referencing some song – “gropeforluna” or “devilbunny” – but they both emphasize the sex and naughtiness too much. As do “hedonismbot,” or any number of Heinlein references. Then I thought about philosophical and mythological options: “Zarathustra,” “Dionysus,” “pomohomo”…but they all seem to just focus on facets of my personality and don’t properly express who I am. That’s not saying that JAlfredPrufrack is perfect but it does get some of it.

I am an introspective, honest, authentic, and ethical man. I try to live the best life I can. I try to be nice and open and honest with everyone I meet. I abhor dishonesty...mainly because I can't live with the smallest of lies (I feel like "The Tale-Tell heart"). I think that life might be easier than most people make it out to be, if we can just be honest with ourselves (and those with whom we interact) about our desires. I think challenges are fun. I think life is worth living artfully.

I am Godel, Escher, and Bach
What I’m doing with my life
I’m happily married to a beautiful woman (justpiecesofme on here) and we have two incredible children. I’m a stay-at-home-dad during the day and audio engineer/musician/composer by night. I’m the sound designer/audio engineer for a musical theatre company and I'm trying to start a business recording records for bands. I play guitar (classical and noisy punk rock/jazz), bass, keys, and will attempt to play anything else that makes noise. I’m also a classically trained composer…I tend to make noisy but pretty stuff.
I’m really good at
Listening to the world around me and responding to it directly.

Forgetting important practical matters.

Remembering ridiculous theoretical matters.

The first things people usually notice about me
My pretty hair.

The gap between my front teeth.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I’m one of those guys that doesn’t read as much as I want and then chastise myself for it. That being said I tend to be reading non-fiction of late: theoretical physics, Nietzsche, polyamorous concepts, mythology, history. In general, when I read fiction I like artsy/philosophical authors: Salmon Rushdie and Jeanette Winterson are probably my favorites. The same goes for poetry: TS Eliot, John Ashbery, Alan Ginsberg…

Movies: You know, I haven’t watched a movie in a long time. Not out of malice or anything. We’ve just been watching all the new cable shows as they become available on DVD: the Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Generation Kill, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, The Shield, 24, Firefly, The Sopranos, Oz, The Tudors, etc.

Music. Ok, so my life is made up by music so this answer could be long. I use music for many different purposes and each requires something different. When I’m deeply listening to the music I like classical music (Wagner, Beethoven, Kronos Quartet) or avant noise-jazz (John Zorn), noisy synth stuff (Autechre, Boards of Canada), or noisy guitar stuff (Sonic Youth, Marc Ribot). When I’m thinking about song-writing, I like Willie Nelson, Cole Porter, the Beatles, solo John Lennon, the Smiths, David Byrne, Tori Amos, CCR. When other people are around, I tend towards the stuff I grew up on: the Pixies, Jane’s Addiction, Fugazi, NIN, TKK, the Beatles. I spend a lot of time listening to whatever record I’m working on at any given time. And I have this running soundtrack in my mind that is usually a combination of whatever I’m writing, a record I’m mixing, and whatever musical I’m working on. Today it’s “Luck Be A Lady Tonight.”

Food: I’m vegetarian, leaning toward vegan. I like good food, preferably fresh food. I like to eat food…I don’t really like to cook. I can, and will…it just takes away some of the pleasure of eating the food. I tend to have a perfunctory relationship with food. I eat good, healthy food that fills me up and then I don’t eat again until I’m starving.
Six things I could never do without
1. My wife and children
2. My hearing
3. A guitar
4. Being
5. Language
6. Pattern Recognition
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I really spend a good deal of my life thinking about sound and the vibrations that create those sounds. I'm also quite interested in theoretical physics, aesthetics, linguistics, history, mythology, existentialism (and its children: solipsism, nihilism, post-modernism).
On a typical Friday night I am
I work most Friday nights.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I superstitiously believe that I must wear certain socks on my left foot and certain socks on my right.
You should message me if
You are interested and interesting.
