My self-summary
Well, okay. I hate this, but let's give it a shot. First and foremost, I think I'm a pretty nice guy. I know you've probably heard that before, but you have to trust someone eventually, right? You wouldn't be reading this profile if you didn't believe that. We've all been disappointed and hurt before, that's nothing new, but we've learned from the past and are stronger for it. Now it's time to find something lasting, something real. I'm willing to give it a shot if you are. Ready? I grew up in (Near North) suburban Chicago. I come from a close, loving family. I have two parents who taught me to respect others, the difference between right and wrong, how to love and how to laugh. Those rules came in handy when growing up with my two older sisters! From them I have three nephews - all now in their twenties. Watching them grow up has been a highlight of my life. I have a handful of friends whom I cherish and rely upon. I have a good job that keeps me busy and forces me to learn something new almost daily. I value my health, so I run or workout 6-7 days a week. I own my own condo, which is comfortable - but not a man cave. I'm really not into that. I have a faith, but I don't force it down other peoples throats. Same goes with opinions and views. I have them. I'll gladly offer them. But I'm sometimes more interested in hearing yours - whether they match my own or not. I'm not very interested in arguing about them, because what's the point? In social situations, I enjoy making people laugh, as it comes natural to me. I even explored that tendency by spending 5 years studying/performing improv and sketch comedy, which was a challenge, but a blast and something I'd like to do again. It was a lifelong dream of mine to write a novel, so I did it. I've recently embarked on a few other lifelong goals, but I'll leave those for when we meet. I have a generous heart, but I will protect it. Try to live right and do your best in all things. Be present when you're needed. The rest is trivial.

I should say that I had high hopes for success on this site, but I'm afraid to admit that my faith is waning! It's hard measuring up to very strict two-dimensional criteria when you're a three-dimensional person - i.e., for me, it's better to talk in person than comparing dating resumes. But that's just my experience, you might have a different take - one that might change my mind! So, if you think we'd hit it off, send me a note and tell me why. Hopefully, that will lead to a phone conversation and then coffee or drinks, as I'm not interested in a long e-mail correspondence that goes nowhere. We've all had those and they're a drag. We've been apart our whole lives, why waste more time! Okay, that's my deal. Let's hear yours. Thanks for listening...
What I’m doing with my life
Not to sound clichéd, but I see life as a slow journey and, if you're lucky, a pretty long one. I don't look at it as a tourist, however, one who seems determined to tick off a list of things to do before the trip ends. I'm more interested in the desire to keep moving. If you can do that, the list will build itself.
I’m really good at
Writing, push-ups, running, making people laugh, listening, being someone others trust and rely upon, cooking for two. Blending into a crowd. Standing out in a crowd. Being the life of the party!
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm youthful, energetic, have an outgoing personality, and a great sense of humor. It might also be the auburn hair. Or that I have a "handful" of freckles. Probably a combination of all of these. You be the judge!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm all over the place with books from fiction to non-fiction. I will say that I have read non-fictional accounts with gripping narratives and strong POV's that rival the great novels. My favorite movie: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - some think it's a little strange, but it really speaks to me. If you're interested, I'll be happy to explain why in person! I also like Ordinary People, Diner, The Blues Brothers, etc. Music: The Afghan Whigs, Twilight Singers, Stones, Clash, Radiohead, Replacements, Phoenix, Ra Ra Riot, Passion Pit, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Real Estate, Judge, and MANY MANY more. Food: while I'm not a restaurant foodie, I do love to cook.
Six things I could never do without
My family
My friends
Free will
The ability to learn
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not being on this site is a good idea. If you can help me answer "yes" to that question, I'd be very grateful because, at this point, I'm not so sure!
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends at a local place, unwinding after a good Friday night run and a long work week. Other times I'll stay in after the run and relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio. It'd be nice to have someone to join me - I do have more than one wine glass!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I wish I hadn't misplaced the map to that buried treasure...
You should message me if
You're curious. You like to laugh. You read. You observe. You listen. You haven't quite given up on this internet dating thing...AND if you want to meet someone whom your family, friends, and dog will all approve. We'll go 50-50 on cats, which I think is pretty good considering they can be a pretty tough crowd. Kids seem to like me, too, which makes me realize I must be doing something right. So, why not see for yourself...?
