My self-summary
A little new to the online thing, but I like the efficiency of it :). I'm an LA native and you'd think that'd make it easier to meet people in this city...but I dunno why it doesn't.

Apart from my faith/family/friends, probably the thing I'm most passionate about is finding and telling stories that capture all the beauty/humor/joy/sorrow/pain/good/evil/violence/love/thrill/ awkwardness/grace and transcendence of life in fresh and authentic ways (I'm a filmmaker by trade.) Real life is messy, and I think that we need well-told stories, not only to help us make sense of it, but also to help us live.

What else...I like laughing at myself as much as I like laughing at other people, if not more. I used to drive an ice cream truck. I like to lie down a lot, too, and I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere as long as I'm tired. Lately, I've been peer-pressured by a friend of mine who is a (annoying) vegan evangelist into changing my diet, so my pants have gotten pretty loose. I do feel a lot healthier, but I cheat all the time when he's not around...

I'm an INFJ. But I flop between I and E.
What I’m doing with my life
I work in entertainment/media as a director. I'm building a small business on the side and direct commercials/edit films for a living. I also write, and I'm working towards getting my first feature film off the ground.

I'm hoping overseas missions work is somewhere in my future, but waiting on God's timing for that. Right now I invest quite a bit of time in helping my local faith community grow.
I’m really good at
When the mood is right, slaying the dance floor at ethnic weddings and mesmerizing you with 90's R&B karaoke bombs.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know. Nobody ever tells me these things. I guess they have a hard time getting past the ridiculously good looks.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: mildly obssessed w/ Russian literature. Tolstoy and Dostoevsky are heroes. War and Peace/Brothers Karamazov might be my fave novels ever. Adore most 19th century classics. Big fan of American lit - Flannery O'Connor, Fitzgerald, James Baldwin, Faulkner, Steinbeck come to mind. On the spiritual front, Oswald Chambers, CS Lewis, Tim Keller are friends. Unfortunately, don't have a lot of time to read fiction these days, or if I do, it's usually for work/research. Have been reading up a lot lately on the communist sports system in China in preparation for a screenplay I'm working on

TV: usually end up catching stuff on Netflix/BitTorrent after it stops being popular. Some of my fave shows: The Wire, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Breaking Bad, Errbody Loves Raymond, old superhero cartoons

Music: really do listen to everything, so a little tough. Will just name a few things that have been on some recent Spotify playlists: Of Monsters and Men, Little Dragon, Raphael Saadiq, Kings of Convenience, Bon Iver, Sade, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Joe Hisaishi, The XX, Bill Evans Trio, Nas, Wale, Bach, Chopin. Erykah Badu radio has been my fave Pandora station lately. KCRW is my fave DJ.

Movies: this should probably be a conversation...a really long one...
Six things I could never do without
Big skies
Rainy days
Trader Joe's
My iPhone (smart phones are evil slavemasters)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The gap between what people say they want and what they are actually pursuing on a day to day basis

How my faith should influence work/politics/philanthropy/social justice on a practical level

How to bridge cultural gaps

How to better use my time

How to fill out this profile

How sad Michael Jackson's life was...
On a typical Friday night I am
holding a beer.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
my dog died a few months ago and her ashes are still sitting on my bookshelf. I don't know if this comes off as morbid or endearing.
You should message me if
you've got a big heart, you've read this far, and you're not scared yet :)

In a partner, a sense of humor, intelligence, and genuine compassion that expresses itself in actions are pretty important to me. Knowing how to have fun and how to show affection are also essential. I'm looking for someone whose sense of life purpose extends beyond simply pursuing personal happiness and comfort (as good as those things can be) and who is mature enough to understand that, because there are no perfect people, any meaningful relationship takes work.
