My self-summary
Here’s a rant. If I hear “serious relationship” one more time, I’m going to spontaneously combust. Why do you NEVER hear the word “ romance” anymore? Or “love?” Or “boyfriend” or “girlfriend?” The other night on TV some chick referred to her “person I’m in a relationship with.” Gag. That phrase has become an emetic.

I’m obviously old school, and I’m proud of it. I also believe in chivalry. When it’s appropriate, I hold doors open for a woman and pull out her chair for her at the dinner table. In short I treat a lady like a lady. Without OVERdoing it.

More about me:

I believe in The Golden Rule. And try to live by it. Empathy goes a long way.

I have no patience for mendacity; I'm a straight-shooter, and I expect the same of you. I’d rather feel hurt by the truth than by a lie, anyday. No contest.

I am NOT into hip-hop, the lunatic fringe on any issue, motorcycles, body art, hunting or littering.

I AM into photography, casual bird watching, star gazing, playing the ukulele and acoustic guitar, casual art appreciation, and conservation.

I like to be around polite, compassionate, soft-spoken, kind people.

I’m an outdoor enthusiast. All four seasons. Early spring and late fall are my least favorites; cold and wet are no fun. Otherwise, I want to be out there. Whether it’s feeling the sun warm my face, getting soaked to the bone during a summer shower or a blistery winter wind reddening my nose and cheeks; it’s all good. Here’s a motto I like: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.”

I love animals. But I’m not a big fan of domestic cats, although there can be exceptions. I’m a dog person at heart. All animals, especially pets, keep me humble about mankind's place in the world. I have an enduring respect for them all, even the lowly mosquito.

What else.... I prefer the Farmers' Market to the grocery store any day. I like traveling off the beaten path, not on a tourbus or staying at Holiday Inn. I like to take my time to soak it all in, never being in a hurry.

There's something else you should know. Right now I'm having mobility problems. When I go out I use a scooter.

I’d like to meet a woman who’s content with a quiet lifestyle and embraces Mother Nature as I do. She takes pride in her appearance and wears her warm heart on her sleeve. She also understands the enormous difference between someone "making" you happy and "being" happy with someone.
What I’m doing with my life
Living a quiet life, enjoying it to the max, with what I have, while I can. Because as the cliche goes, you never know when your time is up. I also try to learn something new every day.
I’m really good at
Listening. Problem-solving. I like to think I'm a decent hobbyist photographer.
The first things people usually notice about me
People have told me my eyes, smile, easy-going manner.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I like historical fiction, like the Beyond the Sea of Ice trilogy.

Regarding music: I enjoy the music I grew up with: the popular stuff from the mid 60's and early 70's. Today’s music seems to lack any real creativity, and doesn’t place any premium on genuine talent; everything is produced through computer programs, totally devoid of any life or soul.

I also enjoy light classical, and some country music.

Movies? I gravitate to the classics. And the occasional contemporary one, if it's done well, and not just the common festival of explosions, CGI, handheld cameras and third-grader scripts.

As far as food goes, anything except sushi and REALLY spicy hot stuff. My decadent indulgence is Skinny Cow.
Six things I could never do without
Let's dispense with the totally obvious ones like shelter, ok? For me they're the aroma of fresh air, sunshine, hope, wild open places, my camera and my ukulele.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Well, the thing most guys are thinking about. And the universe. How it began, how it really works, how it will end, and how we puny little humans fit in. Once in a while I gaze at the night sky and ponder its immense size and age, and start to get a headache. If you can relate to this, then you're my type of girl!

I also wonder why people are so cruel to one another. Why aren't politeness, empathy, consideration and plain old common courtesy more prevalent?
On a typical Friday night I am
At home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I enjoy a fun, harmless practical joke; both giving and receiving.
You should message me if
... you demonstrated that you're a good sport by mentioning something "private" up there. And
... you can laugh at yourself. And
... **you're here to actually MEET somebody. I have zero interest in being a penpal.**
... these lyrics appeal to you:
Some day when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight
The two of us
