My self-summary
I would like to think that I'm reasonably intelligent. Sometimes cynical (but never clinical). I was born and raised in Brooklyn, but I've lived far enough away for a long enough time to truly appreciate our diversity, our Chinese food, and our public transportation. I would, however, love to travel more. I have wonderful, loyal, smart, kind, hilarious friends who really like me, so that counts for something, right?
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a social worker for the NYC Dept. of Education, which keeps me pretty busy. I try to spend time with my lovely friends as often as possible, which. sadly, is often impossible. I like to sing jazz and blues, but mostly just in the shower these days.
I’m really good at
Giving gifts, assessing the safety of children, arguing, sticking up for the underdog, offering a counterpoint, eye rolling and quizzical expressions, and organizing/designing/decorating small apartments.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm told that I look rather mean until I start talking. People also say I have a nicely shaped head. Seriously, that's what they say.

Food? When? Right Now? Chinese factors so very prominently in my life. But I'm also into pretty much anything/everything else. Try me.
Six things I could never do without
4.The sense that tomorrow is another day.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Special education reform, child safety and social welfare policy, institutionalized racism, sexism and homophobia. I also think about music a lot- I spend more time "listening" to music in my head than actually listening to music, which may make me totally crazy, but it's the truth. I think about how lucky I am to live in NYC, if Trader Joe's has ___, and if I'm the only gay white 90's hip hop nerd out there.
On a typical Friday night I am
Utterly exhausted from a long week of worrying about other people's children, which means I'm happy to stay home, cook/retrieve some food, read a bit, and watch Netflix. Pretty low key during the school year, and more of a party monster during the long and glorious summer break (minus the drugs, murder, and glitter). I'd like to find someone who is equally happy and comfortable staying in with a bottle of wine, or going out dancing until 4am.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
That thing about listening to music in my head was pretty bad. What else? I have an identical twin brother. He's much thinner than me. Bastard.
You should message me if
You like to read books, if you have a dark sense of humor, if you like "Bearish" guys, if you like dancing to 80's and 90's house music, if you know the lyrics to any early De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest songs, if you are kind, warm, and affectionate, and/or if you make good, strong coffee.
