I was born in New England, grew up on a farm and ended up in NYC in 2007. I'm an artist, but not 'artsy'; I'm an idealist and incredibly persistent. Classical music has been my life since I was a child--it informs everything I do.
I believe in the goodness of people: in their capacity to do good works, to be compassionate, to offer and receive hope. I believe in empathy; in compassion, not in pity; in understanding, not judgment; in persistence, not pessimism. I believe that love is the greatest gift in the world, for by giving it to others one may only receive more. It is an endless resource, simple yet incredibly powerful. And above all, I believe in love: all-encompassing, unconditional, deeply passionate love. Whether it is love for a thing, an experience, a religion, a philosophy, a friend, a family member or romantic love, we are all capable of it and deserve to experience it.
I'm also a dad to two wonderful, beautiful, loving, charming children.
Movies: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Shawshank Redemption, A Few Good Men, Goodfellas, Secondhand Lions, Planet Earth, Immortal Beloved, Silence of the Lambs.
TV: Sopranos, Frasier, West Wing, Seinfeld, Scrubs, Arrested Development, Mad Men.
Food: Sushi, burgers, Italian, French, seafood.
Music: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Brahms, Chausson, Zemlinsky, Mahler, Strauss, Stravinsky, Copland, Shostakovich, Piston, Persichetti, Mennin. Yup, I'm a romantic.
And, what the heck--6 composers, too:
Beethoven (The Universal)
Bach (The Divine)
Mahler (The Prophetic)
Bruckner (The Reverent)
Brahms (The Classic)
Shostakovitch (The Brave)
I think about the 'classical' world: how the trivium and quadrivium were once the basis of education and society. I think about logic and rhetoric, music, literature, the earth and the cosmos--how everything is related and how, if we listen, think and feel, we can experience all of it. I think about knowledge: what we need to know, why we need to know it, how to share it and express it.
I also think about the opera I'm writing, as well as the scores I'm studying. There's always music in my head.
And I think about sharing these thoughts with someone...
You should message me if you're passionate and warm; if you love to be kissed and also to KISS, to be held, to have an entire conversation without uttering a single word.
You should message me if you know the value of intuition and imagination and revel in the art of possibility.
If you love to receive AND to write thoughtful letters about love and life...if you never make excuses...if you can be honest not just with others, but with yourself--PLEASE write.
And of course, if you have a love of classical music--listening to it, studying it, playing or singing--I really, really want to hear from you.
