My self-summary
Rationalist, utilitarian, pro-equality, geek, probably somewhere on the autism spectrum. I try to say precisely what I mean and care too much about D&D.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm reading a whole lot of blogs and preparing to move to the West Coast.
I’m really good at
Enjoying things, filling out lists, constructing and delivering awful puns, detecting and pointing out anagrams in everyday speech, having a sound financial strategy in video games, making it hard to tell whether or not I'm joking, thinking really hard about the subtext of social interactions, explaining things clearly, bamboozling Amazon into giving me Prime for free every year, and finding things that are interesting. To me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Animal Farm, IT, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Superintelligence, House of Leaves
There Will Be Blood, The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Good Will Hunting
Breaking Bad, The Wire, Westworld, How I Met Your Mother, The Office
I Fight Dragons, Billy Talent, Ludo, Eminem, Basshunter
Steak, pizza, pasta of all kinds, hot wings, cheeseburgers
Six things I could never do without
The indoors, in all of its air-conditioned glory. I mean, I'll go camping every year or few, but goddamn do I hate bugs.
The Internet. When my internet stops working, I go from zero to near-homicidally angry.
A second monitor. I don't think I could ever go back.
You know, I know this directly contradicts what I said above about being good at filling out lists, but I don't feel like finishing this section.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future, in general. I think it looks very bleak and that we are most of the way to a fictional dystopia, and the only shining point of light I can make out is artificial general intelligence, which will probably kill us all unless we solve the utility function problem. So there's my worldview condensed into a sentence.
On a typical Friday night I am
I am a total homebody. I spend my Friday nights the same way I spend just about every night - at home, playing video games (lately I've been playing Path of Exile, but before that I was going through a Payday 2 phase, and before that I was playing a lot of Terraria, and so on).
