My self-summary
I am a laidback, social guy who likes to read, watch movies, run, travel to beautiful places all over the world, cook, and throw dinner parties.

I have been single for a couple of years now. I don't fall for people easily, but I still feel like I am due for a great, exciting romance. Haha. I am content being single. I have a wonderful circle of friends and always feel loved and valued, but it would be nice to find that special someone, or at least have fun trying and making new friends and acquaintances. :-)

I am calm, self-effacing, and nerdy.
What I’m doing with my life
Professionally, I work as the system administrator in the finance industry.

Recreationally, I enjoy going to the movies (a lot), reading, running, yoga...

I have also done quite a lot of traveling in recent years, which has made it possible for me to visit some beautiful châteaux in France's Loire Valley, climb Mount Fuji in Japan, attend a wedding in a villa in Florence, Italy, relax in the milky blue water of the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, watch a flamenco performance in Granada, Spain, wander through the colorful neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, go on a snorkeling excursion in Caye Caulker, Belize, and take a cable car to see the Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong. All of these trips have been very meaningful to me and I hope to continue to see more of the world.

I am also a proud homeowner. I live in West Medford and I love my condo and my neighborhood! I live within walking distance of my friends' houses and am close enough to Cambridge and Boston that I can bike there when the weather permits.
I’m really good at
Making carrot cake, film history, photography, writing, running.
The first things people usually notice about me
I would ask people, but would hate to come across as vain. Maybe my modesty and caution are what people notice first?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - I tend to gravitate towards classics, or the books they make high school students read, like "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy. Other classics I have enjoyed are Edith Wharton's "The House of Mirth," Paul Bowles's "The Sheltering Sky," John Steinbeck's "East of Eden," and W. Somerset Maugham's "Of Human Bondage," and Albert Camus's "The Stranger." I also enjoy contemporary fiction like Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam Trilogy and "The Blind Assassin", Susanna Clarke's "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell," Michel Faber's "The Crimson Petal and the White" and "Under the Skin", Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go," and André Aciman's "Call Me By Your Name." I also really enjoy reading books about the film industry and (auto)biographies of directors and actors.

Movies - I am a huge movie buff! I feel particularly transported by visually striking, strange, and artistic films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Don't Look Now, Her, The Piano Teacher, Funny Games, Mysterious Skin, Blue is the Warmest Color, Under the Skin, Melancholia, Dogville, Safe, Juliet of the Spirits, The Double Life of Veronique, Koyaanisqatsi, Ran, The Innocents, Days of Heaven, Eraserhead, Eyes Without a Face, Cries and Whispers, Henry & June, Woman in the Dunes, The Man Who Wasn't There, Ugetsu, The Piano, The Age of Innocence, Howards End, Vertigo, Blow Out, The Tales of Hoffmann, A Man Escaped, Last Year at Marienbad, 3 Women, Repulsion, Solaris, World on a Wire, Citizen Kane, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Duke of Burgundy, etc....

Music - I enjoy classical composers like Schubert, Mozart, and Chopin; I like film music composed by Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, Bernard Herrmann, John Barry, and Elmer Bernstein; I like mid-century music by Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, Roy Orbison; I like B-side 80's music; I like contemporary music
by Björk, Radiohead, Goldfrapp, Iron & Wine, Beach House, Antony & the Johnsons, The Czars

Food - I have been a vegetarian for 15 years. My favorite kinds of food are Thai, Mexican, and Indian...all very vegetarian-friendly. :-)
