My self-summary
Everything I need to know I learned from my All-Rush-Mix-Tape and a 2 Liter Bottle of Shasta.

Collectivist, Realist, Theorist, Scientist, Idealist, Masochist, Sadist, Humanist, Futurist, Optimist, Skeptic...ist. Singularitan
Jewish Agnostic. System empathetic. Pattern obsessive. Tenderly Introverted. Aspiring decent human being.

Oh, and I just love music and mushrooms

I am Hedonistic, Virtuous, and Tired
What I’m doing with my life
I live the life of an IT Engineer in Silicon valley. After a series of most unfortunate events, I had the pleasure of going through a foreclosure of my home, and opted to move back to the much more tropical Tampa, Florida area.
I've decided to take this opportunity to get away from the professional computer scene in favor of an academic life. I'm currently attending USF to complete my long postponed degree. I'm studying cognitive science and neurology with the vague goal of becoming a research scientist in the field of cybernetics and robotics in the future.

Actually, now I'm back to the IT career, having found some redeeming value from working for a Green tech industry, and branching out into programming and automation. I've recently started working for a private cybersecurity and intelligence company, and enjoying it a great deal.
I still avidly pursue the interests above in my own time, and and have been enjoying hobbyist pursuits as well.
Just to be clear, I'm currently living in the SF bay area, not Florida.
I’m really good at
Learning, understanding, thinking, not thinking, fixing, breaking, caring, objectifying, scrutinizing, optimizing, terrifying, entertaining, rationalizing, self-deprecation, self-realization, and writing.
The first things people usually notice about me
In person at least: The eyes. There's something 'bout em.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm very picky about books I acquire and read.
Sociology, anthropology, International politics (And satire thereof)

Hard sci-fi: Clarke, Asimov, (early) Michael Crichton, Greg Bear, Ben Bova, Steven Baxter. I only have to look at the first shelf in the Sci-Fi section, nyah.
Hard sci: cutting edge sci-tech stuff, particle/quantum/Superstring/M physics, mathematics, Cybernetics, Information Theory, Complexity, Emergency, AI, Carl Sagan, Kurzweil, Moravec, Brian Greene's Elegant Universe, and The Fabric of the Cosmos, Hawkins
Weird and/or subtle/and or complex films: and TV: Lynch, Carpenter, Kubrick, Craven, Gilliam, Cronenburg, Lost, Cube (and both sequels!), Lost, The Cell, Buckaroo Banzai, Ravenous, Requiem for a Dream, The Game, Lemony Snicket's..., What Dreams May Come++, V for Vendetta++, V, XistenZ(?), The Thirteenth Floor, The City of Lost Children, Brazil, Memento, Sin City, Spaceballs, Ghostbusters, Lost in Translation, Being John Malkovich, Heavy Metal, Metropolis
Good Anime: FLCL++, Mindgame++ (find it!), Miazaki (Spirited Away++), Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Akira, Evangelion if I actually sat down and watched it (or so they say), a few more that I was probably way out of my gourd when I saw them, Most AMV's, Metropolis

Classic and Progressive rock: Yes, Rush, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Dream Theatre (Metropolis Trifecta!!!)
Electronica: Orbital, Crystal Method, The Orb, Autechre, Squarepusher, The Propellerheads; I feel old now...

Cuisine: European, American, Sushi, Thai, Indian, Peruvian, Cuban; so far, The only ones I don't care for are Hawaiian and Ethiopian. Too squishy for me I think.
Six things I could never do without
Good People, to know and love
Bad People, to keep my fist clenched when it must be
Deviants, miscreants, and ne'er-do-wells, to titillate and tempt
Knowledge to peruse and pursue
Hope for the future
Sanctuary, from all of the above
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Extreme scales of size, deep time, the posthuman age, AI, dinner, shamefully filthy sexual fantasies, lists, work.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working away in my typical late-night fashion. I need to get out more, but maybe not on Fridays.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
The prospect of a nuclear exchange or massive global war arouses me on some primal level.

I feel ashamed when I think ill of others, immediately or eventually.
You should message me if
...anything you've just read arouses you, in a primal way or otherwise.
...you're looking for likeminded friends nearby or at USF
...you're on the lookout for a romantic interest, and something here caught your eye.
Or if you just want to talk about crazy future robots, that'd be keen too.
