My self-summary
I'm amicably divorced and share custody of my kids (ages 11 and 8).
I'm from the Great Plains, went to boarding school and college back east, and have been in New York most of the last 20 years.
I'm big on the merits of primary experience vs. 'meeting' electronically (duh), and skeptical about online dating. So prove me wrong.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a journalist. I write for a handful of glossy magazines that I grew up reading (or at least that my parents subscribed to for the cartoons and movie reviews). My first book came out a few years ago--good reviews in the Times, Vanity Fair, etc.; still didn't sell much--and a few of my stories have been anthologized. Several pieces I've written have been optioned for the movies or for TV.
I think it's the greatest job in the world because I get to go places and ask just about anything of people at what's often the most remarkable moment in their lives. I'm sent abroad from time to time--to Nairobi, Milan, Paris, Delhi, London, Berlin, and Naples semi-recently--though most of my favorite stories have been here in this country (esp. the American West). I write about art, crime, sports, politics, society, obsessive characters.
I'm a social creature and have a lot of friends in the lit and art worlds, but love meeting new people. I go to lots of parties and even throw one now and then.
I’m really good at
Tennis (I played competitively in juniors), squash (played college), light carpentry, being optimistic. Can drive stick-shift. Can usually solve the Times crossword on Saturdays; always on Fridays.
The first things people usually notice about me
My clothes are really preppy. I love that shit.

Good shoes
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Soho has the boots.
Noho's got the crack.
New England has the foliage but I'm not going back.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out on Second Avenue,
Eating chicken vindaloo.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Hobbies include shoplifting at Dean and DeLuca and buying shirts on eBay with other people's monograms.
You should message me if
You got the Ramones joke or one of the other references.
You get a message from me.
You're stylish, romantic, joyful, and generous of spirit.
You're happy and want to be happier.
You are 1,000-percent woman.
Woo.
