Because I spend too much of my life trying to come up with elegant sentences and coherent transitions as it is, I present the rest of my self-summary as a list, bullet-pointed for your convenience:
-I get more enjoyment out of terrible movies than I do out of most forms of nightlife.
-That said, I am mostly up for forms of adventure that start before 10 p.m.
-I love traveling and, according to my pictures on this site, that is the only time I actually take photos of myself.
-I read a lot, and I am in the process of re-discovering this thing known as reading for "fun."
-I have a cat. She hates you, but don't take it personally.
-I've been trying to work the phrase "cynical hermit" into this self-summary for almost a half hour now, but my roommate tells me it is too negative.
-I'm really bad at making lists about myself, apparently.
My dissertation advisor once described my literary tastes as "nasty Irish boy fiction." I'd like to think my general reading habits are a little more varied than that, but I do like genre fiction. I will always love Harry Potter, along with most of the other modern fantasy classics (Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett (RIP), Patrick Rothfuss, etc.).
I'm pickier when it comes to literary fiction, but I love just about anything Louise Erdrich or Column McCann write. The first chapter of my dissertation is on Tana French, who writes incredibly intense mysteries.
I've recently discovered comics - due to some great friends and their extensive collections. So now I've had the privilege of Brian K. Vaughan ripping my heart ripped out of my chest and stomping on it, repeatedly.
Movies: Pan's Labyrinth is, in my opinion, the best film ever made, but Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe (starring the multi-talented and oft-underclothed former governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura) is perhaps the most entertaining.
Shows: Parks and Rec, Sherlock, Firefly, Game of Thrones (yes, have read the books too), Father Ted, you get the picture...
Music: I like most indie/folky bands, but only once they've become popular enough to be uncool.
Food: Anything and everything, but pie > cake.
1) my cat
2) my laptop
So to those I guess I'd add...
A decent book/show/movie
Some form of nature
(Oh, and to any family and friends who are offended because I left them off of this list: stop reading my okc profile you weirdos!)
You are proficient enough at awkward conversations to distract me from thinking about my dissertation.
