My self-summary
People say I'm mellow and outgoing. They also tell me I have an interesting life story with interesting stories to tell. I am well traveled, well read and generally enlightened. I feel equally comfortable on flats and on heels, and, as Oscar Wilde put it, “if I am occasionally a little overdressed, I make up for it by being always immensely over-educated.” (jokingly)

I am pretty easy going about many things, primarily because it's silly to waste energy on frustration over minutiae, but there are certain things that I will stand for firmly. I approach life with humor because so much of it is out of our control, but I am serious about friendships and relationships - at the very least we don't want to hurt those around us.

I am a SCUBA diver and underwater photographer. I've traveled quite a bit for diving, and I don't limit myself to the tropics. Music and art play a big role in my life. I play piano (mostly classical, especially from the romantic period), I go to concerts, art galleries and museums. Some styles of architecture intrigue me. Other activities that I enjoy include social dancing (swing, waltz, tango, sometimes blues), hiking, biking, skiing, bouldering, and ice skating. Generally, I'm finding that the older I get the more I value being outdoors and in nature. I also like getting together with friends to play strategy board games. I'm interested in international affairs and women's issues. Wikipedia is my good friend.

If you want more specifics you'd have to message me.
What I’m doing with my life
I used to be a scientist. Dining out with Nobel prize winners is what I did for a living. Isn't that what all scientists do? But now that I work in business the dinners with Nobel guys and gals have been replaced by cocktail parties with CEOs and Managing Directors.

Volunteering is another way I try to have an impact on society and further develop as a person. Although in the last couple of years I haven't had any time for volunteering.
I’m really good at
- coming up with interesting things to do
- traveling
- making crème brûlée and blueberry-raspberry whole wheat pancakes and spinach quiche
- swimming
- I tend to be well coordinated and fit
The first things people usually notice about me
My infectious smile, if I may be so modest :-)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: I have read many, and it's hard to pin-point a few, but some examples are - War and Peace, Solaris, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Hiram Key, Master and Margarita. I often think about Swann's Way, something is magical about that book... Although these days I'm mostly reading the news, unfortunately.

Movies: I watch dramas, melodramas, action movies, thrillers, comedies, foreign movies (although what's foreign anyways in today's world?). Ones that have a special place in my heart are Amadeus, Match-point, Before Sunset, Children of Paradise, and Impromptu. Lisztomania is the spiciest movie in my book. Being John Malkovich is a crazy one. I also like the old Star Wars and older James Bond movies. Classics are great, especially some of the Fellini films! Pedro Almodovar, Lars von Trier, Peter Greenaway, Werner Herzog, Woody Allen are some of the directors that I follow.

Shows: A good show, to me, is a witty expression of its time, so - The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Sex and the City, Californication, Breaking Bad, Seinfeld, I Love Lucy. (I guess this list is out of date - I don't really watch TV series these days)

Music: I will admit that I don't know the pop culture well, but I sometimes listen to what's on the radio. Musicians that do come to mind are - Celine Dion, Jack Johnson, Elton John, Beatles, Pavarotti, Domingo, Caruso, Liszt, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Ravel, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Piazzolla, and lots more... I am also an opera buff.
Six things I could never do without
1) Family
2) Smiles
3) Dreams
4) Water, as in bodies of water, such as an ocean; mountains are awesome too!
5) Piano
6) Tea, I love tea!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How random life is...
On a typical Friday night I am
I try to go out on Friday nights, but I might also be doing sports or staying in. It all depends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have gone ice swimming nude
You should message me if
You can tell the difference between Ravel and Renoir. You are an intellectual, or at least a pseudo-intellectual. You want to go to the opera with me, or you want to lindy hop. You are adventurous, you will go on crazy trips half-way around the world. But most importantly, you have a warm heart.
