My self-summary

Someone called me out on this profile's unnecessarily high glibness level. Still, I prefer to be succinct. I am wiling away the hours, days and years doing as little of what most people would call work as possible. I prefer to play games and consume all manner of things that do not have a physical form. I am a gluttonous minimalist.
What I’m doing with my life
Peripatetic professor
I’m really good at
Procrastination! I've had an empty profile for months upon months. Photo? Maybe later. So now there is a photo. I like to think I am good at coming up with band names. I think Illiterate Alliteration Nation is going places.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am tall, but sometimes like to wear boots so I can get that extra couple of inches when my confidence is at an ebb. 6'8" people command much more respect than a mere 6'6"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books preferences are all over the place: Victor LaValle, William Gibson, Jonathan Kozol, Jared Diamond, Richard Dawkins, and books about urban decay (Detroit is kind of an obsession for me).

For film I tend toward documentaries or horror (sadly, there are a large number of great docs, but only a handful of great horror films).

Shows (as in TV. I'll reveal my raging affinity for all things Broadway later). GoT, Boardwalk, Daily Show/Colbert, Bill Maher, Walking Dead, and the old Cartoon Planet series (1at season of the Brak Show, anyone?)

Music -- I am tolerant of a lot of variability in people's tastes except in this area. If you have what I deem to be poor taste in music, you will be the subject of scorn. Rather than post a laundry list of artists, let's just compare iPods so that I can probably say something like "Hmmm. That's an interesting mix you've got there." And then pretend to take an urgent phone call from a friend in need of immediate assistance.

I am content with almost any type of food. French food is not a favorite, but they usually have decent bread and cheese, so I won't starve. Indian and Middle Eastern fare are current hot choices.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Our doomed planet. Until we act on drastically cutting consumption, all talk about "saving the planet" is a waste of time. Also, the fact (imo) that we will not cut consumption until our behaviors have caused enough wide-spread destruction that an austere and grim existence is the best we can hope for.

If I have time, I also ponder why I have a cheery disposition in the face of all of this.
On a typical Friday night I am
Counting the week's failures.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I might choose an evening of strategy boardgaming with friends over a night on the town. However, I would want you to be one of those friends at the table.
You should message me if
the descriptor "misanthropic" strikes your ear in a pleasantly melodic fashion.
