My self-summary
As a kid, I wanted to grow up to be Indiana Jones. Or a Jedi. Or maybe both. I was exposed to the stories of King Arthur at possibly too young an age, and it left me with an idealistic streak I've tried and failed to get rid of. I tend to trust everybody until they give me reason not to, by which time it's obviously too late. But I don't want to *not* trust people, so there you go...

I believe life is too important to take seriously. Laughter, especially that of the people I care about, is my favorite sound.

My friends are like family to me- I grew up as an only child, and have adopted brothers and sisters as I've gone through life. I have a very close relationship with my family, and my greatest wish would be to move everybody into the same town so I could be with all of them all the time.

Since I can't hunt for ancient artifacts and fight Nazis for a living, I've had to make do with other jobs. I have worked as a teacher, a stadium vendor, a telemarketer, a retail trog, a "contractor relations rep" for a repossession company, and a parking valet. My goal is currently to get my teaching credential renewed and go back into education. Teaching has been the most rewarding job I've ever done, and I realized recently that education is my intended place in the universe.

I am witty, upbeat, and a bon vivant.
What I’m doing with my life
-Making the people around me laugh
-Hitting the gym- hey, it deserves it!
-Scheming to get my friends to move to southern California
-Cracking wise
-Relearning the ropes of teaching
-Learning to rein in my animal magnetism
I’m really good at
Telling stories- about friends, about myself, about my family, about history, about anything I'm interested in.

I've been told by friends that I'm the most "stand-up" guy they know. It's the greatest compliment I have ever received.

Making friends.

Making my friends laugh.

Giving my friends a hard time (usually as a way to make them laugh).

Critical analysis- of movies, novels, political theories, scotch whiskys, you name it, I can analyze it.

Also, I make a truly killer shrimp pasta.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd guess it's probably my voice, since I'm always talking.

I've also been told I have nice eyes.

Failing that, it would have to be my devastating force of personality and devilish charm.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Lord of the Rings, the Aubrey-Maturin Novels, Dune, anything by PJ O'Rourke, Bill Bryson, the Conan stories by Robert E. Howard, the Richard Sharpe novels, most any history or biography. I could conceivably go on forever.

Movies: Star Wars (the original trilogy), The Blues Brothers, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Boondock Saints, Pulp Fiction, Yojimbo, Persepolis, Gettysburg, Iron Man, The 40-Year Old Virgin, Blade Runner, AVATAR, and again I could keep going.

Music: Carbon Leaf, Gaelic Storm, Metallica, Lorena McKennit, Dispatch, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, the Eagles, Kid Rock, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Tempest, Dropkick Murphys, U2, Midnight Oil, .

Food: sushi, lamb curry with basmati rice, good mexican food. Do drinks count? If so, then Brother Thelonius Ale, followed by Chimay, Dalwhinnie scotch, Cadillac margaritas (rocks, no salt), and coffee, good or bad as long as it's strong.
Six things I could never do without
Coffee (see above), my friends, my family, humor, books, and more of my friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why the world has turned out the way it has, and how to make it more like I think it ought to be.

Why it isn't fashionable for men to wear hats anymore.

What I'm going to do on the weekend.

How to live a truly good life- not "the good life" in a material sense, but a life of doing good and earning the chance to be remembered well when I'm gone.
On a typical Friday night I am
-laughing over dinner with my friends
-decompressing from a week as a substitute teacher
-planning my weekend
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I still want to grow up to be Indiana Jones. Or Obi-Wan Kenobi. I haven't made up my mind, yet.
